In that case, yeah, I agree. Although i will say that if they are someone who uses their money as a cudgel against others it makes me less sympathetic for their issues.

Perhaps we could try and help them realize that doing good can feel good.

Going to bat for rich people is acknowledging that they are human and will have human struggles?

Yeah, I dont disagree. People using their influence and money to hurt others are awful, and there are too many people who do that.

Typical Internet bullshit argument.

All people with mental health issues deserve understanding and help.

Yes this is exactly my point. Many rich and famous people have changed lives and done genuine good for the world, while still struggling with themselves as a person.

Its ridiculous to me to try and claim anyone who has over a million dollars is automatically a terrible person

And of course, once we have designated them a terrible person based on their wealth, it then becomes OK to mock and belittle their mental health struggles.

Except it isn't. All that happens is that there are some questions over who is the terrible person in this instance.

It's not simping for the rich but acknowledging that anyone can have mental issues and that acknowledging their troubles doesn't invalidate the struggles that poor people go through. You can be sympathetic for every party involved

You literally dont see people with more money than you as human if this is genuinely what you got from this topic

Everyone wants those around them to succeed, as seen with the widespread support of things like the writers strike, but when people do succeed and get money they stop being people apparently

No, what I got from this topic is people seemingly trying to say that rich people suffer MORE in some ways, or that they should be seen just as sympathetically as a poor person. No one should have to struggle with mental health issues (as someone who has been dominated with them for almost all of their whole life, I know that well), but there is literally nothing that would make me feel more sorry for a rich person with mental health struggles than a poor person with them.

I wonder how people would handle something like this, imagine you have two kids going to school and they're both struggling at school. One is struggling way more than the other. Obviously the one who struggling more needs more of your help/resources but are you going to not help the kid who needs less help they ask you for help? This is kinda what's happening now, bringing light to the child that needs just a little bit of help. Nothing wrong with that tbh

Just based on the article, these rich people just want/need real friends that won't look at them like they're just free money to them lol

Who here is even remotely saying that rich people struggle more than poor people? Like legit where are you getting that from?

and yes, a rich person with mental illness should be viewed exactly as a poor person with a mental illness in terms of feeling for them, and hoping they overcome their struggles with that illness.

Im not going to feel less sorry for someone with severe depression just because they have more money, thats ridiculous and kind of fucked up

They've got every opportunity to deal with those problems, and more money to afford proper care. Can't say I give a shit. Not like most of those folks had a drop of real hardship in their life.

Having more easy does make one's life A LOT easier anything monetary related, but what it won't solve is underlying mental health issues. Even hiring the best therapists won't help, I mean look at Kanye West. He does see therapists and doctors regarding his bipolar disorder and he still goes ape shit crazy (though it's very convenient this only happens every time he's about to release a new album).

With that said, the three things listed are still things people suffer even if they're not rich or not. I know I do and I lived in both worlds before. Granted I think I'm more middle class than rich, but it's not a problem exclusively to rich people...except for maybe point 3.

Yeah some of my darkest and most crippling bouts of depression came during times of my life where everything was going right on paper.

Mental illness doesnt discriminate, and having the resources isnt always enough to make yourself whole.

You cant fix mental illness with money. I am sympathetic to anybody who has to deal with mental illness no matter their circumstances. NOBODY should have to go through that and its horrible to dehumanize them the way you do.

Are you seriously trying to do the whole suffering is relative thing? Because someone always has it worse. That doesnt make your problems not matter.
