For those wondering, the knights in Saint Seiya are said to have really really powerful abilities, but because of the way they fight and such, they basically don't do any actual damage to surrounding area, even when throwing around attacks supposedly on the level of a supernova or above.

If it was brought over in the 90s, it would probably be more popular among American girls due to the effeminate looking male characters, while boys would be embarassed to admit they like the show.

Saint Seiya is one of those things where it sounds a lot cooler talking about it. Watching though, lord is it lame.

As it was bought up earlier it made me curious. How strict are power levels in DBZ? Is everything consistent or does it go out of the window depending on what the plot wants?

The latter.

I'd say it's consistent about who is stronger than who in the sense the story doesnt forget, but by how much is pretty arbitrary since characters can get plot based power ups pretty easily and at a moments notice with training or transformation. The only dude who was kind of unclear is really Boo tbh, and comparing to him in particular.

Depends on what you mean by "consistent".

The numbers they cite are vague bullshit, but characters are established at certain power levels and very rarely punch above their weight class without explicitly training or using some plot device.

There are a few noteworthy instances where a character manages to pull off some cool shit against a villain leagues stronger than them, but it never amounts to more than a bloody nose, and those are exceptional enough that when they happen they end up being a pretty defining moment for that character. >_>

It was badly written, there's many inconsistencies. Ultimate Gohan being stronger than SSJ3 Goku isn't one of them.

The conventionally dressed boys vastly outnumbered the effeminate ones--most of them being antagonists that were only around for a few episodes anyway.
