Republicans know they'll be dead once climate change starts really hurting humans so they're just going to try and exploit and profit as much as they can. The average conservative just believe everything Republicans and the rich say so they're fine with letting the world go to shit. They don't even care about their grandchildren and so on. Shows what kind of people they are.

I just love the hypocrisy of it. Like ok, let's not debate the climate change part of this. This bill bans offshore wind turbines. Like not just state funding of them. An outright ban. So much free market happening.

I'm sure this reassures the insurance companies fleeing the state.

Republicans are accelerating doomsday and believe they'll be Raptured long before any consequences of their actions towards the environment will take hold.

And so far it's looking like people on the left will continue to let states get away with this crap by focusing all in on social issues and short term humanitarian crises? Not to knock other issues, but climate change should be the leading issue for all of the first world, and yet people keep getting fixated on crap that will be relatively meaningless to people alive 50 years from now. Republicans have succeeded in making climate change just a dismal afterthought to young, mainstream lefties, and it is not the leading voting issue it should be.

Unfortunately, young people are easy to manipulate and even get to fight against their own interests in some cases. This isn't anything new.

Unlike social issues, which have fewer corporate defenders, environmental issues could actually risk these Captain Planet villain corporations from losing money. Destructive companies and industries dont care if someone is lgbtq+ or what war crimes are being committed (so long as it doesnt interfere with profits). But trying to not destroy the planet would make some people less money.

It's weird because overall Republicans have shifted away from "Climate change is a hoax and not real, stop talking about it as if it is. Those 99% of scientists whose job involves knowing where they're talking about in regards to the climate doesn't matter because I can point out dentists and chiropractors who say it's fake" to "ok fine, it's real, but it's too late to do anything and fossil fuel money go brrrrrrr".

People like DeShitbag are the last holdout of the former and it's so ludicrous that any of them thinks stuff like this still sells. It certainly sells to some, however I bet even many MAGA Floridians are like wtf as they personally see how climate change has changed the place they've lived in for most of their lives. The issue is a LOT of voters don't actually believe in climate change and many who do don't think humans can actually affect the climate and that it's just natural cycles. You can thank decades of disinformation campaigns. These people actually think they're informed on the subject.

Even Nikki Haley acknowledged climate change. Most Republicans know it's a problem. Even fucking Mitch McConnell acknowledged climate change happening due to human influence. They just don't want to do anything about it unless they feel absolutely compelled to.

Literally no President has done more for climate change or green initiatives than President Biden. Dems are also frequently talking about it in general, the threat it poses, and that we need solutions. I actually very openly praised Biden, while I used Haley and McConnell examples of how Republicans currently acknowledge the issue but continue to sidestep it because Democrats let them. The Democrats I'm frustrated with are the ones attacking Biden, for all kinds of shit he can't really control and still win the election, even though he's actually got his head where it needs to be (yes, in spite of his age) in terms of what we can do as a country in mitigating as much of the issue as possible.

My biggest takeaway from this is that I would urge people to keep voting Democrat, regardless of whatever distractions come up within the party, because the worst thing you can do is let Republicans win.

This is more or less what I meant by them being a bit past the denial phase. I'm not praising any of them for waiting until they can no longer deny the obvious, but just acknowledging shifting tides among the mainstream American electorate to the point that Republicans of a certain sophistication can't just sidestep the issue with having mixed political constituents to keep in mind. Just unfortunately, it still isn't shifting anywhere near fast enough.
