Looks like she actually tried it so part of the video is her explaining her personal experience. Anyways longer form Youtube content is becoming more and more popular I saw a recent 9 hour video that covers every Fallout game in-depth and another 4 hour video that covers every Diablo game in-depth.

Documentary length shit is becoming more and more popular on Youtube, if you love short videos those still happen but don't discount longer content it can be good. This thing was beyond expensive though I have a set of friends who go to Disneyland very often really care about Star Wars in general, and spend a lot on Disney things and even they scoffed at paying what I believe was a few thousand for this experience.

When you are missing out on a target demographic like that, it's a matter of time on when it fails.

I love Jenny Nicholson.

I don't even know or care what a Star Wars Hotel is and there's no way I'm watching a 4 hour youtube essay on. An hour I'd have put on as background noise. An hour and a half I'd be stretched to do so.

I assume most chop it up into pieces, the 9 hour Fallout series video for instance you can watch easily in parts. Sure this might be harder but even then I have done that with similar videos over 3 hours long.

Sure some want to watch the whole thing in one sitting and that is harder, but even then you hear about binge culture today where people will watch a 26 episode season of The Office all in one day that is over 8 hours of content right there.

This is exactly how I feel about it. Except I'm okay with those episodes dropping all at once too. But I just like having episodes.

An episodic format also has the benefit of enhancing conciseness and narrative structure because typically an episode will tell a specific "story".

Like the cheapest room was $5,000 for 2 nights for 2 people (and you had to book 2 nights, because the hotel's interactive story lasted 2 days). That's expensive as hell, when Disney World itself is already extremely expensive.

I think the most egregious part was where Disney messed up, Jenny went through the normal channels to get it resolved, it doesn't, and then it does when she tweets about it.

Most people don't have a huge amount of social media people.

So what people are in here saying is... they don't want to deal with an unbroken and lengthy immersion into a niche experience? Four hours for free with the ability to leave or return at any time without leaving your home?

Seems a good meta reflection for the discussion of a full two-day stay that costs over $5k where you can't leave and do anything else, have to travel all the way there, and it's a popular property but niche experience

I watched, and I do mean watched this isn't a podcast and it's full of video of the hotel, the whole thing in one sitting last night. While I do think it would have benefited from being sliced into 3 episodes. It still was very well done and fascinating.

The whole thing was a monument to Disney's hubris.

Yeah, the underestimated the amount of the Venn diagram crossover of "our rich ass customers who could afford this" and "people who are big enough fans to want to do this".

Like to my understanding it was an awesome, well done, super immersion experience. I did the lightsaber building experience when I was there and that was genuinely amazing, so if the whole hotel experience was like that, it would have been awesome. Problem is, people can't afford what Disney was charging.

I won't say that the video couldn't benefit from some additional conciseness, but it largely used its run time well. It definitely isn't a casual dive into subject. It's probably the most extensive look at the hotel and it's experience. It definitely isn't for everyone but it is good to have really in depth views of now defunct experiences, that few got to have to begin with.
