Konosuba can literally pause on a still shot of Aqua and Kazuma's faces for 8 straight seconds each with no audio and it's still some of the funniest shit in anime.

I said before that my worries about getting tired of the alternate setting were for not, but now that we're actually back to the house it is IMMEDIATELY apparent how much I missed the standard antics.

I have seen the JJK leaks from a couple hours ago.

JJK is honestly the funniest Jump manga ever at this point. Gege is in full silly mode.

I finished Undead Unluck. I really enjoyed it! There aren't many other anime with this many creative ideas. I loved all the interesting abilities and how they were used in all those crazy situations. The characters were great too. Andy and Fuuko were my favorites of course, but even a lot of the smaller side characters were memorable or cool. Lots of aspects in the story really appealed to me too, but most of them are spoilers so I can't talk about them much.

My only real complaint is that there was a lot of padding in certain scenes. Lots of flashbacks, lots of unneeded explanations, and really long recaps at the start of every episode that cut into the runtime. One fight near the end had annoying narration the entire time recapping everything that led up to it, and it's just... I don't need this. I saw those episodes, I get it. It would've been way cooler seeing all those things come together if the narration hadn't felt the need to recap it for some reason.

Still, compared to how much I loved the story overall, any problems with the adaptation are pretty minor. Solid 9/10 anime, I hope it gets another season someday.

Tried watching Ascendance of a Bookworm, but bounced off it halfway through episode 2. Between the 5-year-olds blushing at each other (though the MC is actually a woman in her 20s(?)), the way characters don't question how a 5-year-old just invented shampoo, and my irrational hatred for the MC's relationship with doors, I don't think this show is for me.

I REALLY could not get into this show at all, I lasted 3 episodes I think? I know it has some major fans and was decently popular, but I just didn't click.

Bookworm is the Spice and Wolf sort of "it's only good because of the characters, and not really the dialogue or the ideas at play." It has moments of heaviness after awhile.

But as good as Myne is, she's no Holo or Maomao. Kinda hard to be when you're 5-10 years old.

I love Myne's fragility early on. Having to be carried everywhere because she's unable to walk moderate distances is amazingly moe.

The series has great worldbuilding too.

Finally, 2 months late. Thanks Bandai Namco you really are the distributor of all time.

I enjoyed Bookworm more once it got past the early bits. Felt like an educational program at times where she taught the viewer all the different ways to make paper. Eventually, though, she more or less stopped creating books entirely and it became a decent fantasy anime with good worldbuilding. Still not for everyone, though.

I think the only people who loved books more than Myne were Sheska (FMA) and Yomiko Readman (ROD)

So today Crunchyroll got some sort of "Episode 0" for a show called Dead Dead Demons Dededede Destruction. That's the kind of eye-catching title basically demanding people watch it. However, the reviews on Crunchyroll are warning new viewers not to watch Episode 0 because apparently it spoils a bunch of stuff from later in the series??? I don't know what the deal with this anime is, apparently it'll be some sort of extended version of some movies that came out a few months ago, but releasing it like this is a stupid idea if people aren't supposed to actually start watching it here.

I haven't watched the movies, but was planning to watch the episodic release after they announced it since they're adding a bunch of new content to it apparently. I'll wait to hear on episode 0 whether it's actully something to avoid or if it's just a Baccano situation people are exaggerating.

I'm continuing to clear my backlog. Not even counting that big project of 100 anime from different seasons, I still have four more unfinished shows. Man, did I ever let my backlog get out of control.

Today I finished Blue Drop, which was half a yuri highschool romance, half a really weird sci-fi action story. The way it tried to merge these two halves was intriguing at the start. However, the more I learned about what was really going on, the more I realized that these two halves didn't mesh at all. I vastly preferred the yuri romance half, but it was often impossible to get invested in it when there was serious sci-fi drama stuff happening at the same time that should've been way more important. Yeah it's cute that you girls are blushing, I'd love to focus on that, but oh my god go and deal with the sci-fi stuff, it's getting out of control. This anime had some of the most jarring editing I've ever seen. Happy school festival, cut to dark sci-fi action, cut back to happy school festival, cut back to dark sci-fi action. It was like watching two completely different anime, and they were both made worse by the presence of other.

Despite all of that though, I liked Blue Drop. Even with the two halves of the story not coming together at all, the big climax still kind of got to me. I liked most of the characters. The romance half in particular had some dumb melodrama at times, but overall it was a solid story. The sci-fi half... well, usually I'm a fan of sci-fi stories like this, but it didn't work for me at all. At least it wasn't as bad as it could've been. I'm still glad I watched Blue Drop. It just had a lot of conceptual problems, in my opinion.

The first one apparently covers some early-ish stuff, then jumps ahead to cover volume 8-9 for the rest of the movie, and then the second one covers the rest (but changes the ending).

since it's a slow burning series that's more about mood than plot, it would have made more sense to have a tv series covering everything up to volumes 8-9, then do a movie for the conclusion.

I assume that's a big part of this series version, which is confirmed for 18 episodes. If they're all 23 minutes like episode zero that's nearly 2 hours of new content accounting for the OP and ED each episode.

The characters are clearly into each other, but I wouldn't call it BL. I think people are too quick to jump on anything that has a gay or lesbian MC in it and tag it as yaoi or yuri respectively. You don't tag all anime where a girl and a guy love each other as "straight".

No tag though? Sounds like it's being left up to interpretation :P

It actually had the tag before for a long time on the obliging side, but I believe the writer has them take it off because it was overshadowing that it was a horror mystery first and foremost.

Naw the seeds count is typical for the first hour or so of this group release, and my DL just finished so I can verify. The problem is that this is the most urgently people have rushed to download an episode of this show ever due to spoilers.

For comparison, the split for the shit MTL subs for this episode is 227 / 9 in the opposite direction (and this has gone up to 9/581 lol). It doesn't help that it's a 1.5 GB Amazon RIP for the video.

I'm just gonna give up on deciding what the best anime is this season because there's no way I can choose.

I loved Bravern and all but boy is there a difference between something you like a lot and something that you truly fall in love with, Winter Season was so cooked compared to this.

Yeah, my favorite anime in Winter was 7th Time Loop. I loved it, it was great, but there are three anime this season I'd easily rank above it (Condition, Jellyfish, Tonbo).

I won't get to see GBC 8 for at least a week but I looked up the spoilers because I'm weak. Man, this season's girls music anime sure have a lot in common, don't they!
