It's been my fear that the show will try to push the plot since the last couple minutes of last week"s episode.

One can only hope they stick to their strengths and, despite what emotional beat they inevitably go for at the end, make it absolutely insane to cap it all off.

I haven't watched today's episode of Train, but I'm actually really glad to hear it's dull. After the absolute awful nonsense that was last week's episode, I needed them to dial it back about fifty notches.

I don't typically pay attention to anime movies, it's just not my thing unless it's either a franchise piece for something I deeply care about or something that just grabs me from the moment I lay eyes in it like A Silent Voice. However, I wanna bring attention to A Few Moments of Cheers, falling into that latter category, because I think it looks incredible. It's out very soon in theaters in Japan, so it will probably be a while before it can see it here.

I'm already glad I decided to do my seasonal anime project. It's getting me to watch stuff I probably never would have otherwise! The 1985 anime, Dirty Pair, is great so far. It's about two women who get hired to take care of sci-fi problems both big and small. They're competent in a lot of ways, but they inevitably cause hilarious amounts of collateral damage. They're also both such terrible people that it's a lot of fun to watch. I'll never get tired of them nonchalantly zooming through red lights and causing huge traffic accidents, meanwhile Kei and Yuri are just bitching at each other over something else entirely. This anime does a great job with their banter. Plus, with absolutely no explanation whatsoever, they have an intelligent cat the size of a grizzly bear.

Dirty Pair is a classic!

Nina's not in university! Her entire thing is going to school so that she can pass university entrance exams.

Well guess I just need to watch all the episodes again to refresh those finer details (was going to do this anyways)!

Finished Assassination Classroom. It was a good show from beginning to end, but "Graduation Time" might be one of the best episodes I've ever seen. I'm tempted to raise the show from very good to amazing simply on the strength of that scene...good god. This show knew when to hit hard.

Started up Shy as well. Had some interesting stuff at play for hero comedy/drama stuff, even if Teru is not my preferred character type (the super shy girl). Pepesha though? Laugh riot. Made me start liking this. I'll see where it goes.

If you like Pepesha, you might actually like Shy because Pepesha gets way more attention than you'd expect. I didn't like Pepesha though so I thought Shy was bad.

Pepesha wants the world to get drunk. If nothing says, "I'm the comic relief character to balance out the shy nerd stuff," nothing will.

Season 2 of Shy will also air in summer so it's a good time for it.

Summer's got some good adaptations, mostly continuations like Oshi no Ko and Sengoku Youko. In terms of originals, I'm not sure, I guess Na Nara Hana Nare is the most promising? Seems like a solid season. This season has been incredible though so anything would look a little less impressive in comparison.

Shy is great. I can't speak for how the show holds up last episode 3 but I am up to date with the manga and....well it's wierd right now, but for the most part it's good!

I'm going to wait a week or two before doing my usual posts about upcoming Summer shows, but I'm really excited for that show with the deer girl.

That said, went ahead and actually checked out a bunch of PVs since last night.

Na-Nare Hana Nare, as stated earlier looks interesting, girls parkour and a Brazilian MC. Obviously I'm mainly here for the team behind it though. Also it's PA Works which.....has a shot of being good! Convinced it depends on what phase the moon was in when the series was greenlit.

Parrying in Another World.....is what I was 100% convinced this dumb ass long LN title was gonna translate to, but I Parry Everything is apparryently an actual fantasy anime, by OLM at that, so...I.....maybe?

Senpai is an Otonoko was absolutely negative riz when I hadn't watch a PV and thought this was comedy first, but this appears to be an actual, like....meaningful romance with aot of gender stuff to it, so I'm actually totally sold? I can see some people getting mad at this show lol.

Fat Elf I used to read so many years ago, in figured I'd check it out for nostalgia's sake, but this is another negative budget motion comic adaptation so I'll let the memories lie. Don't want another series tainted like Way of the House Husband.

Gini Harem, girl develops multiple personalities to turn herself into a 1 girl harem for the boy she likes. This is a scenario that will be funny for 2 episodes maybe before I drop it. I'm also filing this into my new mental category of "shows that's premise would be 10 times funnier if it wasn't set in a high school".

I ain't watching the I wanna fuck my stepsister sho-"Tags: psychological".....if the I wanna fuck my stepsister show is secretly, like, actually super fucked up in a cool way and not horny way....maybe....

Isekai Shikkaku, it's the most generic Isekai imagineable on purpose because the MC is Zetsubou Sensei, and he just wants to actually die instead of live here.....this is the Uncle From Another World studio, I didn't realize they'd even gone back to finish it lol.

Suicide Squad Isekai, yeah I'm obligated, get ready to bust out the Catsite again because this isn't getting casted because whoever is in charge is a fucking moron.

Tower of God S2 lets GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Magical Girl and Evil Lieutenant, riiiiight this is the one that Bones hyped up the world about the announcement of around the world and made a bunch of people pissed lol. I remember actualmfans were insistent that this was one to watch, though, will definitely check it out.

Sword of the Demon Hunter, wow, animation looks really good, cool fantasy action set piece, based on actual novels, maybe this is one to waNOOOOO YOKOHAMA ANIMATION LAB NOOOOOOOOO

Dahlia in Bloom has a really cute redhead with a good voice as the MC, so Isekai be damned. Also it's the second anime from the new studio that was formed to make Apthecary Diaries, so....yeah I GUESS that means it's probably going to ACTUALLY be decent.

Too Many Losing Heroines already had a fun premise when I saw it announced months ago, and these PVs look amazing, so I'm sold.

Mayonaka Punch looks amazing 10000% behind it, zero notes. Original PA Works anime, always some fear but when they hit they hit!

Still won't watch the Nier anime. Let's see if they can finish airing this one in time lol.

Speaking of AssClass, The Elusive Samurai........I feel like it's wierd that I have not heard a single person ever talk about Matsui's current manga, and now it's getting an anime? Hm.

Soushimin Series, vague description, based on a mystery novel, very atmospheric trailer....I know that "from the creator of Hyouka" must mean something to someone, but this looks good all on it's own.

Tasogare Outfocus, no interest but really wish yaoi bros could get something with a budget for once, they shouldn't have to watch Banana Fish on a loop every season.

Ayla Sometimes Hides Her Feelings, the gimmick is that the girl is Russia and sometimes talks in Russian, we're really knocking it out of the park here huh?

That's all that's standing out now, but as always I'm glad to be surprised. Spring was the first season in a while where everything basically went as I expected going inz though I did heavily underestimate just how much In would like the top shows.

Just saw Tower of God S2 is 2 cours, oh this is gonna cook.

I think this is the only action Manwha that hasn't let me down/lost my interest (though I am very far behind, though almost certainly still ahead of where these 2 cours will get to)

Dandadan also just got confirmed for 2 cours, though split. Ohhhh if we could only return to the days of the early aughts, where even an original anime could be an uninterrupted 4 cours.

I decided to do my look ahead at Summer a bit early too, why not. 38 non-sequel shows (good lord) so I'll do ten or so per weekday, finishing Monday. Starting with lowest members on MAL and I'm not reading anything except the MAL descriptions.

Tasuuketsu - in a world where most people have disappeared, five survivors are forced to play a game. They're asked if they want to live or die. Whichever answer gets majority, the people who picked it are killed. This is honestly kind of a neat premise for a short story or a movie or something, lots of potential for philosophical debate and questions of the meaning of life. As an anime series, though? I don't see this idea carrying a full TV show. I'll wait and see what kind of reception this gets.

Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin - a goddess on a demon-filled island works with some outcast humans to fight back while also cultivating rice. This is based on a video game, and I guessed even before checking because this sounds like the kind of RPG + farming fusion I see on Steam all the time in the wake of Stardew Valley. It sounds like it could be fun to play. I'm not sure it'd be fun to watch, though.

Grendizer U - an exiled prince flees the Fleed Planet (get it, flees Fleed) to Earth and then fights back with a mecha against the invaders who follow. This feels like a standard mecha anime. I'll probably skip it unless it starts getting good reviews.

Red Cat Ramen - cats who run a ramen shop hire a person who prefers dogs to look after them. Cats running a restaurant sounds adorable, but I'm afraid this will just be a boring food porn anime. Going to wait and see what people think about it.

Dungeon People - a thief searching for their missing father is hired to run a dungeon, including setting traps and hiring monsters and such. This makes me nostalgic for an old PC game called Dungeon Keeper. It also sounds like a fun premise, so I'll definitely check it out!

Mayonaka Punch - this is a comedy about two "NewTubers". I feel like this anime will be aimed more at the TikTok generation and I'm probably too old for it. Nothing infuriates me more than the idea if a show about kids doing stupid bullshit trying to go viral.

The Rookie Middle-Aged Adventurer Was Trained to Death by the Most Powerful Party to Become Invincible - always nice when the title explains the premise. The only thing I want to add is that the main guy is named Rick Gladiator. Definitely skipping this generic power fantasy.

A Nobody's Way Up to an Exploration LV - a typical high-school student who... hunts slimes in dungeons in his spare time? That isn't typical! Anyway, he finds a rare item and uses it to summon a waifu. Definitely skipping this.

Na Nare Hana Nare - an anime about cheerleaders, cool. I was one of the few to really love Anima Yell, so I'm definitely going to give this one a shot!

I Parry Everything - in a world with a complex political situation that apparently doesn't matter, an adventurer wanders in with the ability to defensively parry everything but no offensive power whatsoever. I dunno, this premise honestly just sounds boring.

This season has some of the biggest disparity between descriptions and PVs I've ever seen. Really looked like endless trash when I skimmed it last week, but some of the trailers are fairly impressive.

The more of Shy I watch, the more I hate Shy as a character. I've never liked the super timid characters, and every time she speaks, it just drives me up a fucking wall. Thank god for the supporting characters that react to her. If it was just her most of the time, I would have dumped this show by now.

Why are you watching an anime literally called Shy if you dislike shy characters?

Because I was curious about the superhero premise. The 'hero' stuff masks how much I hate Shy, and they play with it enough (Stardust beating the absolute piss out of her to teach her powers for instance). The supporting characters are really holding everything together.

Day two of me looking ahead at the Summer anime season.

Plus-Sized Elf - anime about a fat elf, easy skip. I absolutely hated Otaku Elf because it was 90% just about her eating snacks. An anime about a fat elf will probably snack even more.

Bye-Bye Earth - the only human on a world otherwise filled with animal people goes adventuring to discover where she's from. This reminds me of Somali and the Forest Spirit. In that one, though, humans were killed off and they hoped there might still be more out there somewhere. Here there's just only one human? How do they know what a human is, then? I'll probably check this out if it gets good reviews but right now I'm just confused.

A Journey Through Another World: Raising Kids While Adventuring - another trash isekai with the premise in the title... but, fuck it, I'll watch this one. I really enjoyed Farming Life in Another World and it was also, essentially, about a guy creating a family in a spooky forest. Sometimes these slow-life isekai can be surprisingly good.

Quality Assurance in Another World - this one is apparently not an isekai, but the description is confusing so maybe I'm wrong about that. Dragons invade and a village girl meets a scholar but they both have secrets... what is this supposed to be? That sounds like a romance setup but it isnt tagged as such on MAL. Meh, I'll skip it for now.

Delico's Nursery - vampire aristocratics raise kids. After Buddy Daddies failed at mixing family stuff with spy stuff, I'm wary of any of these anime that try to mix action and family. Spy x Family did it right. I'm going to wait and see what people say about this vampire one.

VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral After Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream - despite making me think she got caught naked or something, the girl in this just got drunk. I'm not a VTuber fan at all, so this is an easy skip.

My Wife Has No Emotion - a guy starts to fall in love with his robot maid. I'm definitely going to give this a try, mostly to see if they can thread the needle and not have this be creepy. Is the robot sentient? If so, does she have the option to refuse him or is there a scummy power dynamic where he could shut her off? This could be a cute and interesting romance if they avoid that potential pitfall.

The Elusive Samurai - a samurai kid is really good at hide-and-seek, which comes in handy when his family is slaughtered and he needs to go on the run. This is tagged comedy, which is good because if it tried to be a moody revenge story I don't think I could take it seriously. I'll definitely check this one out!

Dahliya in Bloom - an isekai girl makes magical tools and has relationship woes before deciding to live for herself. This being an isekai is a minus, but I'm intrigued by the magical tool angle. I enjoyed that one Novice Alchemist anime. Something about crafting things deeply appeals to me. I just hope it doesn't have too much relationship melodrama.

Twilight Out of Focus - a boys love story about roommates who have a bunch of rules to avoid falling in love, but they start falling in love anyway. Man, someday I want to watch a BL just to say I have and to prove I'm not prejudiced, but it won't be this one. One of the two guys in this has a boyfriend and I don't want to watch a story where he contemplates cheating the whole time.

Oh, neat. I never finished Assassination Classroom S2, but my opinion of S1 was that it had a lot of wasted potential. Most of the characters felt really flat. Still, Elusive Samurai sounds like it could work with that style of writing a lot better. It'll probably have a smaller cast, at least. I'm more excited for it now!

I would give a fingernail for an extremely well done Neuro anime to make of for the trash Madhouse gave us last time.

I definitely plan to finish AssClass someday. It, AKB0048, and K-On are the only three anime where I for some reason just stopped after S1. At this point it's been so long I'd probably have to rewatch the entire thing. I was glad to hear it had a good ending in your earlier comments, though!
