If you're going to majorly change a vote please quote your old vote to make it easier for me. ----------------- Roguelike-rules: Needs to be a video game released commercially. No fan games or mods. Needs to be primarily a Roguelike or at least a Roguelite, no games that have Roguelike modes or frequent genre switches. I don't even know if "Roguelites" are a real thing or not, I googled it and it seems like some gatekeeping bullshit. Feel free to argue about that itt but I am counting them. I do not think an exclusive "Roguelite" Mount Rushmore would be a good idea. Simmering on the rest. Diablo and Hades are both great picks, but the genre feels very indie-specific to me (Spelunky, Dead Cells, 20XX, Enter the Gungeon, Crypt of the Necromancer.....) so I need to process some more thoughts on that...and then also, clearly Rogue is the influence but I never played it or maybe even saw it before, so...gotta think some more. Hades Slay the Spire Spelunky I don't even like Spelunky (or Slay the Spire, particularly) but it and Binding of Isaac are the two mandatory ones, to me. Spelunky was such a turning point in procedural generation for video games. A Mystery Dungeon game would also be up there if they made it big, barring the Pokemon ones, outside of Japan. Hades is just, the big, exceptionally well-made and mass appeal roguelike, and Slay the Spire is the best rep for the huge deckbuilding roguelike genre. --- Perhaps the golden rock was inside us all along. ... I thought about this and I think the answer is yes, something can be like itself, in fact it is the most like itself possible. So Rogue is a Rogue-like but not a Rogue-clone. To which point:

so you're telling me that if the topic was the 4 games on the souls-like rushmore, people wouldn't be voting for Dark Souls? i think the answer is just that the modern usage of "roguelike" doesn't actually relate to the game Rogue very much at all so it just isn't at the forefront of most people's minds ...
