With this change back to the original now I'm seeing some people saying like "ACKSHUALLY Vivian was an Otonoko aka a FEMBOY, meaning he's a guy who dresses effeminately. NOT TRANSGENDER" and then shows Vivian's catch card info from Super Paper Mario as proof. Nevermind that it's a different game and got things wrong about the previous party members anyway.

It's been confirmed the dialogue in the Japanese version has been updated to make it more clear/direct, too, so I wonder what excuse those "I just want accurate localization" types will come up with next.

It was most likely because of this line. Because people can't take a simple joke these days. Today people are offended by everything and will immediately refer to this funny joke as meaning all (manual labor workers) agriculture, manufacturing, construction, mining, or maintenance workers etc., as being sad fools. Which obviously isn't true.

That's why... And it's ridiculous. This is what cancel culture has done to our society. People getting insulted over nothing, at the drop of a hat and acting like fragile snowflakes.

I like Vivian and all, but TTYD made so many original characters and species that weren't present in the mainline Mario games, that I unironically think TTYD (and Super Paper Mario) made Nintendo push back with the original character implementations too hard, and force the newer Paper Marios into adhering to "canon" in a more strict way, directly impacting the quality of the series

But since TTYD is being remade in the first place, they could be reconsidering their stance
