And a not insignificant portion of those who say they support it really only support it in "certain conditions".

It's a shared failure for a reason.

Democratic leaning voters in Louisiana saw how Republicans govern red states and instead of trying to not go down path like Kentucky did with reelecting Beshear, they chose to stay home and now got a red trifecta doing everything possible to to kill any hope in that state.

What Republicans want to do when they have control is not a damn secret, no subliminal or hidden messages, they say it quite openly and brazenly nowadays.

Give it a year, Louisiana will be the worst state since that state legislature seems eager to take the spot from Mississippi or West Virginia.

... I fail to see the problem? As far as I can tell the bill basically exists to make sure only people who are supposed to have abortion inducing medications will have them. Don't get me wrong, I'm 100% pro-choice give that shit out the way they do condoms as far as I'm concerned, but the origin of the bill was because a dude spiked his wife's drink with abortion inducing medication when she didn't want to terminate a pregnancy. Which is a fucking horrifying thought on many, many levels. If a pregnant person wants this kind of medication then give it to her, full stop, but for damn sure there's no reason for not-pregnant people to have it.

And yes, I realize the potential to abuse this is valid. That's true of everything. My point is more that its super easy to dogpile red states for doing dumb shit but this seems pretty valid actually.

Medical professionals have spoken out against the measure, saying the medications have critical uses outside of abortion care, including aiding in labor and delivery, treating miscarriage and preventing gastrointestinal ulcers.

Ok but all of those are still valid reasons to have a prescription. As far as I can tell this isn't an attempt to reduce medically needed access to the medication. It literally just criminalizes possession without a prescription. I guess an argument can be made for government over reach, sure, but compared to some of the mask off villain shit red states be getting up to this seems pretty passably reasonable?

Corruption of the system does not mean the system is broken, it means the people applying it are.

You're not wrong, man. Trust me, I know that. Here's the thing: If a bad person does a good thing we need to be glad they did a good thing and run with it. If they then try to use that good thing to do more bad things THAT is when we need to raise hell and stop them. By all means, let them do good things.

I'm not convinced this is a good thing, for the record. I just fail to see how its a bad thing on the face of it so far. I am positive, given the chance, they'll use it to hurt women. That doesn't negate the fact that if applied properly it helps protect women.

IMO the burden of proof should be the other way around. I.e., everything out of a GOP legislature is axiomatically evil until proven otherwise, and there is no such proof here, only wishful thinking.

They sure as hell are working hard to profit off the suffering and deah of women already, so I wouldn't be surprised if they've covered all their bases.
