. Why does the rest of the world keep complaining about the size of American cars? I often criticize aspects of America and the things we can improve, but this feels similar to British complaints about the way Americans pronounce words. They have their own altered words, like "aluminium," which Americans pronounce correctly. And they came up with fucking word and still say it wrong. Or the French, who criticize how we say "croissant"have you heard how they say "hot dog" and "hamburger"? It's a bit ironic to hear pronunciation critiques from those who often drop the "H" sound. I would be dammed if I let someone who can't say Haa tell me how to say words correctly.

Back to the cars: We have more space here, so we don't need compact cars to fit on narrow roads. Yes, vehicles like the F-350 are large, but that's the exception. Please, stop complaining about our regular trucks. And this is coming from someone who would drive a kei truck.

emissions literally matter.

I don't mind the small suv/crossover, but those huge SUVs like the Escalade or whatever are kinda insane.

It just really sucks that the big 3 here just outright stopped selling sedans

Every time I park, a truck has to park next to me and completely block my view while backing out. It's like some kind of bizarre compulsion they have.

Bigger heavier cars mean larger blind spots, it takes longer to deaccelrate and there is a higher likelihood of death in the event of a pedestrian being hit and more pedestrians are hit. Also you need bigger engines and more fuel to move that extra mass so its worse for pollution and uses more resources and costs more. Heavier cars means you need bigger breaks and said breaks are strained more. More money spent on breaks. Also heavier cars mean tires wear down faster and tires are one if the biggest sources of microplastics. Its bad for everyone in almost every way at almost all times. We actually should forcibly compel companies to change how they make cars.

Cars kill. Big cars kill more. Cars in general are one of the biggest killers of humans so its a very good idea to keep them as small and low polluting as possible to greatly lower their direct, primary and contributing kill count. Also discourage car driving/encourage other forms of transit through infastructure. Cars should not be as dominant as they are in America. We waste so much life, land and money and it makes us poorer then our income suggest by being such a goddamn money pit.

Oh and also means you need larger parking spaces which means more land is wasted on that.

I rented a Big ass Truck one time when my jeep was in the shop, I didn't pick it that is all that they had . And people love them and hate them. For some reason people keep making next to me. Since it was so big I would park way out of the way of other cars in the back of the parking lot and people would still park next to me LOL. Also people were less friendly on the road to me. No one did the JEep wave back to me.

While I don't agree with some of the things he said, you went out of your way to highlight your point . That is always a great thing and brings the CE above just yelling at each other.

I'm convinced your average human thinks cars are living things that get lonely if they're by themselves.

I could park in a volcano on Pluto and when I came back, I guarantee you someone would be parked inches away.

There's no 'correctly', only what you are used to and naturally prefer.

It's always a bit embarrassing to see British and Americans go in for silly pronunciation nationalism. Especially if they aren't usually that way inclined. It's like 'let me just have this. This kind of exceptionalism is fine, right? I'm not doing one of the bad ones'.

(It's all bad).

Why does the rest of the world keep complaining about the size of American cars?

In short:
-They are big. And thus the amount of space they take up in street parking is ALSO big.
-Cities happen to rely heavily on street parking. Thus the big bad trucks mean only about 2/3 as many vehicles can actually park, if they are all that size. Those obnoxious huge things take up 1.5 spaces worth of car.
-Most people with an F-150 are not using it to just haul anything more than groceries and their excessively large egos.
-wastes fuel. Bigger cars are also more expensive, and high mounted things like trucks and SUVs are extra dangerous to whatever they hit.

The list goes on.

Well you see the larger size of American cars means they have larger crumple zones.

So in an accident the person reading their phone will most likely not kill me as they drive into me headfirst.

The grill on these trucks are literally head height.

In conventional car design, you will be hit, you'll roll over the hood and off the roof of the car. You'll definitely break your legs but you might survive.

In a truck (and often, it has a bullbar) you are getting smacked by a 7tonne wall of steel to the face. The only thing that's crumpling is your skull.

Bruh, Ive survived a fully loaded beer truck hitting me head on at forty mph.

A distracted housewife hitting me in the drivers side front wheel blowing through a red light.

A kid ramming my driver door.

All within the last year and a half.

I didnt feel a thing in my 4Runner. Every one of them but the beer truck was an SUV.

I think a lot of people buy the pickup truck because "you never know" and when they've had it for three years and finally use the bed they're like "ha I knew it would pay off", completely oblivious that they could have rented a pickup truck for about $75 instead of paying an extra $20k compared to a sedan.
