I personally prefer e-ink Kindle. Reading books on an LCD / OLED is kind of annoying.

They dont work for me. I bought a Kindle Oasis to try it. The biggest font size it had wasnt big enough, and even using that, the screen was so stupidly tiny only half a paragraph fit per page. I returned it promptly.

I use glasses that block blue light, and I dont want to read outside in the sun anyway, so tablet is fine for me.

AirDrop is a mechanism to transfer files between devices. You can do this any number of ways on Android, like cloud sync, KDE Connect, AirDroid, etc.

I went from iOS to Android myself, never regretted for a second the swap. Much prefer being on Android as I hate how locked down iOS is.

The Kindle Scribe is 10 inches! It's been a godsend I can't go back to the Paperwhite. I don't even use the scribe features I just wanted the bigger display.

I thought about it, but its way too expensive when its basically tablet priced and can only do one thing with no color.

It periodically goes on sale. I felt the same way but snagged it for 30% discount which I felt made the price reasonable. Might be a thing only for prime members though.

I'm more a Kobo guy when it comes to e-readers, for kinda the same reason I'm an Android guy over iOS.

I have an ebook manager for portability and can convert formats as needed. The reason I don't like iOS is because of all the ways it tries to lock you into a proprietary ecosystem. I can drop Kindle any time I want.

Yeah, Kindle definitely isn't as bad as iOS for it by a longshot but I don't want to have to go through the annoyance (even if it's minor) of converting formats.

I use MapleRead, and its fantastic. Well, I basically download Kindle books to my NAS (I have the cheapest eink kindle registered to my account for this purpose), import them into Calibre, download metadata, extra EPUB from A W3 (or convert to EPUB if its MOBI), then Count Pages.

In MapleRead I can just connect to the Calibre server and batch download whatever books I want. Best reading experience Ive found as far as customization goes.

There8s no lock-in DRM or anything, its just an iOS only app, but I have an iPad so its fine.

Yeah. I also use Calibre with add-ons for kfx conversion. I copied an RPG book from DTRPG to my Kindle that way lol.

Ive never had luck with KFX. If you have a registered Kindle, you can login to Amazon, go to your account, Manage Content and Devices, Books, then for each book, you can do Download and Transfer via USB. It will download in AZW3 format. You have to put the serial number of that Kindle into the DeDRM Tools settings, but other than that you can just import into Calibre and youre good to go. AZW3 is much easier to work with.

I used to use an older version of the Kindle desktop app which made it much quicker to download, but that method doesnt work for any book published after some time in January 2023 I think (I may have the date wrong).

KFX is for copying epub or mobi to Kindle. I don't think it's used the other way around. Obviously Kindle will also just take epub or mobi natively but kfx let's you get all the Kindle features and it's not really a big hassle to do.

I need to figure out how to get admired Kobo books into Calibre with the DRM stripped in the process. There was a Humble Bundle recently where I got Kobo copies of every Discworld book for about $18, so it was too good to pass up,

Part of me thinks that's great but another part of me is like probably faster to read all of one piece.

iPhone 15 pro max here. It's mostly the same experience. You can sideload stuff with AltStore. Still overall app experience is slightly worse IMO if you're into anything niche. The whole thing about how apps just work better on iOS due to the more streamlined development ecosystem or whatever is just not true. I see similar glitches freezes and hangups I did on android.

I'll probably stick with iOS though just because, for some sick reason, it is a status symbol, and I feel more self confident with one

Yeah, Humble Bundle is pretty nuts in general. But I think the whole Discworld series on Kindle was about $w50mor so the last I checked.

Exactly. iPhones have over 50% marketshare in the US, I believe. Thus, by definition, it can't be a status symbol if every other person on the street has one. Quite the opposite in fact.

A status symbol is something that is usually exclusive and displays wealth and your social position. Your phone company will give you an iPhone for free if you start a new line with them.
