My cousin is going to the Philippines and our tradition whenever we visit is to bring them pasalubong. In other words, bringing a gift to family members whenever you see them.

His wife has an issue with it though because she hates moochers and she believes that people should pay for themselves whenever gatherings happen and to not expect gifts from Westerners.

Yeah I think he should divorce her since they had a huge argument over this. She didnt even want to go to Philippines in the first place because she doesnt want to vacation in 3rd world countries. Shes insufferable and I cant stand her.

I think most people should be ok with giving relatives gifts right? I would never take any issue with any gf I have in the future giving gifts to her relatives

yea, from my experience, it's common to give gifts to family, friends, acquaintances, etc. that you're visiting.

What the hell kind of logic is that? She sounds super petty and stuck up. I'm so sorry your cousin has to deal with that

I always bring gifts when visiting my partners family. They always bring gifts when visiting us. I dont think its got anything to do with me being a westerner.

I normally get a little extravagant with the kids, but the gifts for adults are normally small tokens.

The woman in the first post sounds awful.
