Friday:

Me: (Calls Spectrum) Hey, we've got a new circuit from you guys at a certain location and it isn't working. We aren't seeing any traffic from you.
Spectrum: Our configuration looks fine. We aren't seeing traffic from you. Can you powercycle?
Me: I can't powercycle because it would take the whole location down. If we aren't seeing traffic from each other, there's a configuration problem somewhere. We have the same configuration at another location with this same type of circuit and it's working just fine at the other site
Spectrum: We need you to have a laptop plugged directly into the equipment to troubleshoot further.
Me: Can you guys double check your configuration before we send someone out?
Spectrum: We have and we don't see anything wrong. We'll open a ticket and have our engineers ready for when you call with a tech on site.
Me: OK.

Fast forward to this afternoon... Our tech is on site, plugged his laptop in and put in the static IP info. It didn't work.

Me: (Calls Spectrum again) We have a tech on site and his laptop isn't working even though it's connected directly to your equipment.
Spectrum: Can you powercycle the laptop?
Me: The laptop was booted up fresh when the tech arrived on site. We've also tried 3 separate devices. The tech's laptop, our switch, and our firewall. Neither one works. Same configuration as the other location on our side. Do you have an engineer ready with our ticket?
Spectrum: No, we closed that ticket on Friday because we didn't see anything wrong.
Me: We were told that an engineer would be ready when we had someone on site.
Spectrum: We'll need to dispatch because we can't find anything wrong.
Me: Can you compare the configuration on your end to the other location that is working?
Spectrum: Yes, we can do that.
Me: *asks more probing questions*
Spectrum: *still can't find anything wrong*
Me: OK, we'll coordinate a dispatch.

Spectrum called me back a few minutes later...

Spectrum: Hey, we think we found the problem and made a change. Can you double check?
Me: Hey, it's working now. Cool.

Finally.

oh you have spectrum to eh

let me share my story with them

so there are 3 apartment complexes all next to each other A B and C

so one day i got a call from them saying "uh are you getting your internet moved" i said no

see some one had moved into a different complex same apartment number different complex

they where getting internet thus this caused confusion for spectrum

i explained no thats a different building and was assured id have no issues

then my internet got shut off and it was hell to get it turned back on

part of the problem was they had my email address wrong (they had typoed by 1 letter when imputing it) so yea had to go threw all kinds of hoops to fix their screw up

Yeah, we typically use Spectrum and AT&T as the primary two service providers in our environment at work. In my role, I almost never have to deal with service providers directly, but there are times when they don't configure their stuff properly and it's a pain to get them to fix it.

You'd think they wouldn't pull this shit with a company like they do individuals.

I remember the ISP I had years back had a note on their system for if I called with network issues. They'd skip the preamble and I'd give them the diagnostic information from my end right away. Apparently a thing they did for some of their customers who they know have IT experience, my current ISP? No such luck, it's just the usual power cycle bullshit because it can NEVER POSSIBLY be a problem on THEIR end.
