If it's a teen no because they're learning valuable skills early. If it's a child they shouldn't be working.

Not working just have to be there because sitters are an expense.

Ah, in a way they can observe people working, I suppose. As long as they have something to occupy themselves with and aren't in danger I don't see any harm in it.

People here have no idea what people have to go through to try to run their own businesses, and yet claim they dont want corpos to run the world.

As I have said before, if you want to have any meaningful opinion on a subject you have to understand what is really going on.

I remember watching some show when I was a kid where the family was running their own shop and I thought it was cool how the kids helped out. For some reason I wish we had our own shop too.

Of course I never experienced it myself so

Really depends on so many factors but generally no.

It would be a good idea to see why they're working before making any rash assumptions to be honest.
Maybe the kid wants to follow in their parent footsteps and run the business when they're older so they're helping out because they like it and/or want to know more. Maybe the business is really struggling and needs all the help they can get, kids know that if the business fails then it'll have dire consequences for the family. Maybe it's as simple as the parents offered them a small part time gig for some extra money on the side and they accepted

But at the end of the day it's really how the kid responds being there. If it seems like they're glad to be there then I don't feel bad at all, it's nice to see parents spending time with their kids. If the kid looks like they're miserable there then yeah I feel bad, probably means that they were forced into the job somehow. But even then they could be glad/miserable for a complete unrelated issue so lol

Is the alternative to them working there/being there, just them being at home with a sitter?
If so, then I don't really have an issue with them being at the work site.

Not really no. There's a ton of assumptions being made in this topic and that's not really fair to those families. As a kid, I got dragged to all sorts of things that I didn't want to, including sitting at my mom's office while she worked. Doesn't mean it happened all the time, or that I was not enjoying my childhood overall.

I just assume the pocket change is pretty nice because I swear the teenager I always see at a local chinese buffet register (I'm assuming its usually his mom that is always on the other register) is like the happiest dude that is always trying to make you laugh.

My dad wanted to hit this place up yesterday and that same dude was there cutting up, lol.

Going to be real with you if I was like 15 years old, my parents owned some sort of local diner and they wanted me doing things like sweeping, working the register, maybe wash some dishes, take out the trash or things like that you kidding me I would have loved making money to just buy whatever video game, sound system, or getting a car asap for when I'm a freshman at HS.

Man I had to wish dishes, take out the trash and mow the lawn with a push mower at home growing up and i got all of jack-shit for that, lol.

This makes me think of the Chinese food place right by my job. I usually go there once a week becasue the steamed chicken and broccoli is pretty good. Been going for about 5 years now, and there's always a kid sitting at one of the tables. When I first started, he must've been about 7-8 years old. Now he's probably 12-13 years old. I assume he's homeschooled, because I'm usually there when school would be in session (1pm).

He's usually sitting there with a school book of some sort, doing work, but every so often he's sitting there folding takeout menus.

And whether he's there because his parents don't want to get/can't afford a sitter, or for "work experience in the family business" it ain't any of my business.
