Full disclosure. Im from the UK. Dont really care for basketball or know anything about it. Why so much hatred for Caitlin Clark in recent weeks?

She's good at basketball and is making the WNBA more popular. That makes her a lightning rod.

Also she's white and sometimes that seems to be part of it? She hasn't done anything other than play basketball though.

She was really good and broke college records which made a lot of people want to watch her in the pros, and she, whether deservedly or not, was getting a lot of credit for bringing more attention to the WNBA than it has pretty much ever seen. That said, it's made some of the other players resent her, and they've been purposely targeting her, either to get attention, or to purposely try to hurt her, to the point where another rookie even admitted she's doing it on purpose because being the "bad guy" gets attention.

Cuz she's hot

Women's college basketball has gotten huge in the past few years thanks to some big names like Paige Bueckers, Angel Reese and Caitlin Clark is the best of all of them. Set the scoring record for the NCAA.

Since you're from the UK, think of her as like the Harry Kane of women's basketball.

Truth be told Kane doesnt get nearly as much bad press as Clark seems to be getting. From a media perspective hes relatively boring in comparison lol. He's no Beckham. It generally the younger guys that get more attention over here or the people who seem to live out their private lives in the public eye.

It's literally just controversy the media made up, too. Clark herself has barely even said or done anything. The media basically went "Clark is so great, she's amazing, she's so popular! ...But is she too popular? Why won't we stop talking about her? She must answer for this!"

Cheers for the other posts peeps. I was expecting some sort of Megan Rapinoe style controversies around Clark. Looks like the media just doing what the media does sometimes.

Why so much news about famous NBA players? The news stories follow the subjects which get the most attention. What're you gonna do, post about other WNBA players nobody has ever heard of?
