Huge fucking deny. I live in an area that will regularly hit -30 or worse windchill every winter with consistent below 0 normal temp and its always WAY better than hot and humid weather. Not even close.
No bugs in the winter, no mowing grass and yard work, no wrath of god thunderstorms with high winds, lightning, hail, and tornadoes that wipe a town out consistently. We get more tornadoes than anywhere in the US where I live. Even ignoring all that just based on temp alone its super easy to stay warm in the winter meanwhile its legitimately impossible at times to stay cooled off. firedoom666 posted... I never experienced temperature in the negatives, but I am pretty sure you can just wear a bigger coat Once the temps get low enough, it hurts to breathe, esp. if the air is really dry. Feels like you have cold steel wool lining your throat and sinuses, which are also being mummified (high winds make it even worse. Have fun jogging or shoveling snow) I'm lucky that we don't normally get temps where the cold hurts your lungs, so it's something that I've only read about. I live in the Pacific Northwest. We get two types of winter weather: icy rain fronts from the northwest, and dry, windy fronts from the northeast. The latter are physically much more unpleasant for multiple reasons (wind chill, utter lack of cloudcover unlike the former, extremely low humidity, colder temps, etc. Also less fun for the kids since it doesn't bring much snow, and what snow it brings is dust-like) but the former is far less convenient for commutes and weather damage. Luckily, there's a decent chance that NW fronts only bring snow and borderline-freezing temps that melts within 24-48 hours. Or if we're far less lucky, a western or southwestern front comes in for a day, melts some of the snow, and then gets kicked out by a western front that refreezes the melt into ice, then dumps snow on top of it, followed by freezing rain. Those things can last for a couple weeks. Oh, and if we get a lengthy storm, it's not unusual for us to START with a NW front that quickly changes to a NE front. Or we'll have a NE front that a westernly front temporarily penetrates, drops freezing/mixed/normal rain on, and then gets kicked out by another eastern front. Basically, the sort of thing that is apparently common in the Midwest, since when I visited family there in the winter, I noticed that the ground consisted of several alternating layers of ice and snow. The most common weather for us consists either of sunny dry days that only reach into the mid or high 30's during the day and then dip below freezing at night, wet drizzly days, or my absolute favorite-- sunny 45 degree days with rainy evenings and nights (the cloudcover prevents the heat from escaping, so it only gets down to 40 at night, and it's warm enough that some of the bugs come out during the day.) Thermador446 posted... If you don't keep gloves with you at -10F, you'll lose fingers. But I wear gloves for anything below 40 F. Cold dry air can trigger asthma in some people. With the heat, you can still go outside, get some sun and then go in your car and turn on the A/c. It's still very beautiful out. With the cold, it's dark and depressing. Sure you can bundle up, but that's not even the main problem. The biggest issue I have with the cold is the snow and ice. Having to shovel snow once a week or more is ass. Then having to deal with the snow and ice on the road while driving is also ass. There's not much to do outdoors when it's really cold, too. If you're not near any hills, there's no snowboarding. It's just endless snow and cold - you basically have to stay inside most of the time. 110 degrees is hellish, but at least you can go to the beach or the ice cream store and cool off while checking out babes wearing almost nothing. ...
