UK here. Whats a triple double?
https://www.dictionary.com/browse/triple-double

What does triple-double mean?
A triple-double is a basketball statistic for a player who, in one game, reaches double digits in three of these five areas:
-points
-rebounds
-assists
-steals
-blocks
The most common form of triple-double is made up of points, rebounds, and assists.

What stats "actually matter"? Clark's 5.6 turnovers per game?

And no, nowhere near half of Reese's rebounds are her own missed shots - over the last 6 games, for example, she had 90 rebounds and 13 of them came off her own misses. That's 14%.

Clark is great. Reese is great. I'd still take Clark and would still bet on RotY going to her, but it's a good race.

But 1st triple-double by a rook in the league's almost 30 year history? Not bad.

of course CC would have more turnovers. She has a higher shooting volume and shoots threes. That's how it with player ball dominant players. Look at how lebron leads with turnovers in history. CC is also a rookie and all those numbers have improved. It will naturally come down

I think it speaks more to the fact that the women's game is 8 minutes shorter and the season is half as long with a ~a third as many teams.

This. Players that shoot more obviously turn the ball over more than players that don't. A player that shoots more has the ball more. When you have the ball more, there's a greater chance you'll turn it over than somebody who... Doesn't get the ball as much. It's a weird stat for people to grab on to. When you're the only good player on the team, and thus the ball inevitably ends up in your hands more often than not, you're going to, naturally, also have higher turnovers.

Well, no, the Fever have played more games so far. Your link there even shows that.

How do you turn the ball over by shooting? A missed shot is not a turnover. As a point guard, it's her ball handling and errant passes that contribute to her turnovers.

You can shoot more and not have as many turnovers. Neither the volume of shots taken nor the type of shots taken are directly tied to turnovers. When you shoot and miss, it isn't a turnover.

This is more accurate. A ball handler has more opportunities to turn over the ball. As a point guard, you bring it up the court, set up plays, make passes, etc.

But she isn't the only good player on her team. Aliyah Boston also really good. Building around the two of them is going to have very positive results.

This is a great feat.

Yeah, I didn't specifically mean Clark when I said that. I was also referring to LeBron, who... For many years, was the only consistently good player on the Cavs. LeBron has the most career turnovers in NBA history, but nobody gets on his case for it, because... Well, it makes sense. The more you have the ball, the more you're going to turn it over.

you guys can't be arguing if you can't really think about it. It's not about shooting. Like I said, ball dominant. She's going to be passing and be in control of the ball most of the time. Of course she's going to have more turnovers. She's the playmaker or who the game revolves around.

ultimately, I don't think turnovers will even factor in this.

listen, Reese is a good player obviously nothing away from her. But this has become an obvious social media battle where some theoretical lines have been drawn. But CC is far and away the better player

Nice. Do you ever see quad or quin doubles?

The NBA has only seen four quad doubles in its history, and the last one was in 1994.

You don't see them anymore due to how the sport has changed. The focus since the 90s has been on players focusing on one specific side when it came to offense or defense, and getting a quad double requires both.

The point guard runs the offense and usually is the team's best dribbler and passer.

The power forward position entails a variety of responsibilities, including rebounding, screen setting, rim protecting, and scoring.

tl;dr: This is why Clark has more turnovers and Reese had more rebounds. Power forwards have rebounding as the main part of their role. Point guards have to set up plays and pass the ball which means if the other players don't catch the pass, as shown in the video somebody just posted, it counts as a turnover for the point guard.

I know full damn well that a playmaker is going to turn the ball over more than a traditional big, lol.

5.6 per game is a ridiculous number. That's 40% more than anyone else in the league. 70% more than the third most in the league. Almost 30% more than the second most in a season in WNBA history.

Yes, part of that is just due to being a big time playmaker tasked with creating a lot of offense. It's still a historically bad number that is fair to bring up alongside the good that she does.

"Actual" turnover rate, lol. The way USG%/TOV% work limits how useful those numbers are to compare different players unless they have similar shooting/playmaking volume. Shooting more tends to lower TOV%, playmaking more tends to raise it.

Basically, Clark's and Thomas's TOV% are close - despite Thomas dishing out 0.8 more assists and 1.6 fewer turnovers - because Clark shoots almost 50% more shots.
