Samus was a classic Nintendo silent protagonist, due to the hardware limitations of the old generations, but Other M tried fleshing her out more, giving her character and whatnot. I appreciated the effort. However, I don't like the direction they took. They had her emotional, and break down with PTSD moments of weakness, and I didn't appreciate that depiction of her.

Sakamoto doing a complete 180 on her personality with Dread because of Other M was very much welcome

I had fun playing it so much that I played the game multiple times when it was new. However, there are just so many things wrong with the story, such as Samus not activating any of her suit's abilities until Adam gives the OK, due to her respect for him. Which is fine, until you come to the lava section and Samus doesn't turn on her Varia suit at all, despite constantly losing health, until the boss fight where Adam tells her to turn it on.

There are also really annoying pixel-hunt sections you're supposed to look at before you can progress and you're not given any indication as to where exactly the game wants you to look. There's also a soft-lock that you can very easily activate very early in the game that doesn't occur until near the end of the game.

And finally, Samus' character was destroyed in this game, making her get PTSD from a certain character so hard she almost dies, despite this game taking place after Super Metroid and not having PTSD in that game.

Ill never forgive it to go out of its way teasing a Tourian-like Mother Brain section and then (literally) jettisoning the idea away.

Tried it twice and got stuck on that game breaking glitch both times.

I liked it. My biggest complaint was the pixel hunts.

Apparently, the devs fought hard to use the Wiimote + Nunchuk control scheme, but Sakamoto was deadset on having the game be Wiimote-only.

I remember being so hyped for this game v_v

It's a very OK game with a couple notable shortcomings (particularly the writing)

It is a very bad -Metroid- game even before you get to the story.

It falls in the same bucket as the DMC reboot - The game itself is...fine, but it's bogged down by the worst writing anyone has ever put to a script and some hard disrespect to the cast it uses (Compare/Contrast Fedora Vergil w/ PTSD Samus)

If it had an all-original cast/story with similar framing, it would have likely been simply forgotten instead of universally hated

Game was literally some dude's BDSM mommy fan fiction of Samus. I consider it completely non-cannon and do my best to forget it exists.

Other M is a masterclass in the director getting too goddamn close to the product. The game would have been so much better if he spent the entire dev cycle locked in a broom closet somewhere. Almost everything wrong with the game was his fault. The writing, Samus's voice actress's terrible performance in the localization.

Loved this analysis on it.

I thought it felt good to play at the least, but like team ninja's game design already. As a metroid it just...ends, and doesn't click at any point.
