dameon_reaper 07/16/24 4:41:46 PM #1:	I was a little kid and I'm a little embarrassed by it but for a long time I stopped watching Yu-Gi-Oh! when Joey lost to Marik in Battle City. The battle was really good and watching Joey get better and better in the tournament made me love him so when Joey was about to win and ended up losing, I got upset and quit the anime for awhile. Like a long time. Not because I hated it though. Eventually I got over it but I'm watching the Japanese anime for the first time and I'm getting near that point and I realize just how badly they screwed his character up in the 4kids version...hell, I was reading how they kinda ruined him in the anime at all. Pretty sad....especially because Jonouchi has the makings of a real protagonist and I'd love to see him as a main character in his own series. Technically there are plenty of times where his luck acts like it in such a way. I liked Yugi but as an adult I really think he's boring, especially compared to someone like Jonouchi who is seen as weak that eventually rises up. Joey then beats Yami Marik in the semi finals, but still is KOed by shadow game shenanigans. He did end up breaking out of the shadow realm through sheer force of will to cheer on his best friend.
