Much worse than the first one. The new additions to the lore weren't thought out very well, vocations were worse, travel/character movement was a chore/bore, not enough new enemy types/those that appeared did so infrequently, ending kinda crapped on the first one and was dumb. Best case scenario it was rushed out ahead of Wilds to provide Capcom devs with open world RE engine experience, worst case scenario Itsuno actually considered it the realized form of DD and was oblivious to the reception of the first game. Definitely not worth the money and a constant "what the fuck am I playing" experience. ... Copied to Clipboard!

It's pretty bad. Has some good moments in major enemy fights but still doesn't capture the zany magic of the first one. Quests are super boring, having to walk everywhere gets super boring, a lot of the map just feels empty, and they took so many fun skills away from vocations like thief and archer. Bow combat in DD1 was the best I've ever seen in a game, and in DD2 it's just a joke. After a while you realize that 99% of the game is slowly walking down corridor highways fighting the same enemies over and over again. First game never felt like that. First game had a really weird map with a lot of empty spaces but it also had so many iconic locations that you'd return to over and over again for epic fights. And then there was BBI which turns everything up to 11 by boiling down all the game's mechanics to their bare essence, and it's great once you figure out what to do. A dlc like that is the only way to salvage DD2 but I don't have high hopes that it's possible. The DD1 base game was pretty meh but it had so many great foundations that BBI built on and perfected. --- "Tether even a roasted chicken." - Yamamoto Tsunetomo ... Copied to Clipboard!

I liked it a hell of a lot less than even base DD. 2 was so boring and bland that I didn't bother finishing it. It's going to take something better than bbi to fix this mess of a game. Shame because I was actually very hyped for it. Capcom has been mishandling this series since the beginning byreleasing 1 before it was ready, forcing fans to rebuy the whole game because they wouldn't sell dark arisen standalone, never bothered releasing online on the west and God knows what meddling they did to 2 for it to release in such a pathetic state. --- :) ... The only thing better about 2 is the graphics. I don't care about graphics. The first game is an all-time favorite that I've played through more times than I can count. The sequel was a terrible experience and I will never play it again. I don't care what DLC they might release for 2, I'm not getting fooled again. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I actually thought DD2 was really bad. I feel like the combat feels like a really bad beat 'em up. I'm not expecting anything from MH to Souls to DMC or some shit, but I am expecting a bit more than just hit the weakspot 20+ times. Some units don't even really have good defensive options. But also the prospect of fucking walking everywhere and basically getting tired of it from around the 4th or so time you've walked the same road just to accomplish not a whole lot, it's pretty grating. They also decided to be super stingy with Portcrystals and sell them for real money rather than actually have waypoints. Fuck you director. I don't give a shit about your philosophies, at least give us the option. Oh right, there's like no story either? I mean unless you call whatever the fuck that was a story. It starts with some intrigue and goes completely nowhere, so it's hard to find motivation to complete the main story. --- "Iwata was awesome" - Mr. Nintendo https://i.imgur.com/krtFHol.jpg ... The graphics are definitely better, as you'd expect 12 years later, but a lot of other changes felt like either lateral moves or so incremental as to make no real difference, and in a few cases actually seemed worse. Like, the romance system is marginally more developed, in that you are not going to be randomly paired with the "they're masterworks all" guy because the game needed to slot someone into a cutscene real quick, but it's arguably worse because at least that was silly and memorable, whereas DD2 has two designated romance targets with virtually no development or pay-off of any kind, outside of a single generic "fade to black" cutscene. --- Thus I became a madman. ...
