Been working in the same restaurant for 8 years. It's so depressing.

Granted I've saved up $450k in that span, so I suppose it's been fruitful enough. But it's so depressing to watch so many people come and go while I'm still here. There was a 14 year old girl who worked here back in 2018/2019, she was so nervous about applying that she brought her mom with her. She's now engaged as of a week or so ago. What am I even doing with my life?

Having zero expenses I imagine and not spending any of it.

Still netting 56 grand a year is a lot of self control when waiting tables.

I swear in previous posts he said he was a dishwasher and worked a lot of overtime but maybe he is in a much better position than I'm giving him credit for.

I don't know his living situation but I thought he was in NYC. But I'm not confident on that. I don't really recall. I'm not familiar at all with their local economy but I wouldn't be shocked to learn if someone was getting some decent money washing dishes at a nice restaurant and if they were living at home or mooching off their parents and saving all their money and doing nothing but working long hours I suppose it is possible.

Or if they are working as a server and getting a lot of tips I could see it. I live in the middle of nowhere in the Midwest and my cousin was working a crappy little bar/restaurant and was banking like $65K consistently for like a 5 year stretch. Sure she was an attractive female but still, if someone can make that kind of money off tips in such a low population area like where I live I imagine a fancy place in NYC you could save some serious tip money if you were good.

And in some places even as a dishwasher don't you get like a cut of the tips? Not sure how that works.

I'm not saying any of this is accurate, I'm just saying in some scenarios I could see this being possible.

Sorry, poor choice of words. I haven't saved up that money from the job alone. I have another job as well, I had an inheritance, and I've had some investment income. I just meant that at least I'm in a better financial situation, because that's just about all I've improved upon in 8 years time. Sometimes I just feel like I'm going through the motions of life.
