Yeah, its common. Whether or not mainstream media covers it is just based on how much revenue it will generate. General election years are the absolute best time for clickbait ad revenue.

You can neither craft a policy cruel enough to keep these people from leaving the countries they're fleeing, nor one strict enough to keep Republicans from claiming that Democrats want open borders. Obama deported a record number of people, and when he left office he was replaced by Trump shouting about building a wall. The only thing "nipping this in the bud" will accomplish is unnecessary suffering for some of the most vulnerable people on earth.

To be fair, the still Trumper I know has been freaking out about the immigrant invasion for the past few years. He talks about it frequently, how to handle it, what hes going to do and not do, etc. But I know he listens to conspiracy stuff, and he lives about an hour from the border, so I think its a steady stream of fear mongering for those who are too deep.

We did have migration camps early in the Trump presidency. I remember many kids dying and being separated from their parents.

Don't think too deeply about it. The only fact you need to know is that republicans didn't give a shit about the border until they could use it to fear monger over democrats with. Same thing now, same thing on why The Caravans always pop up around election time.

The only thing Biden needs to say is that Republicans voted against a law that would have prevented these immigrants from entering the USA.

Whenever the right becomes afraid of losing an election, a caravan appears.

Genuinely, I don't get why. Admittedly I really don't know anything about the quality of life in Mexico but given the state of the US in the last 9 years the idea of crossing the border into the US comes off as someone from South Korea trying to cross into North Korea.

Republicans seem to be the personification of the dog catching the car quite a bit as of late. When they made it a felony to work as an undocumented immigrant in Florida, a bunch of them just left the state and started working in other areas. Then they started complaining about the lack of labor and wanted them to come back. A state rep even said during a town hall that the legislation was "just meant to scare them." As if they didn't just implement major criminal consequences for them doing what they've been doing for a long ass time.

We could also look at any other country and just handle immigration like they do. Its not like its a mystery that only the US has to unravel.

With roughly 2.4 million farm jobs needing to be filled, according to the American Farm Bureau Federation, the current system's restrictions on year-round labor contribute to the farming crisis by inadequately supporting the full spectrum of agricultural labor demands.
The ALWG report issued Thursday of last week details proposals to address the crisis. Key recommendations include simplifying the hiring process for H-2A workers, expanding the program for year-round agricultural sectors, adjusting worker pay based on job roles, and creating a fair wage calculation standard.

Back in June of 2022, the American Business Immigration Coalition (ABIC) collaborated with Texas AGM International University (TAMIU) researchers on a study to explore how non-citizen or migrant admissions impact the broader economy. Focused on labor costs and consumer pricing in the agricultural sector, the research found that higher numbers of migrants and H-2A workers correlate with lower inflation, higher average and minimum wages, and lower unemployment.
A higher number of migrants would help reduce waste too. While the variability was influenced by factors like crop type and market prices, farmers cited labor availability as a chief reason for product waste, which exacerbates global food insecurity.

Cartels treat remote villages the same way warlords do. They come to them and tell all the young men to join or die. Someone I know is currently dealing with that
