It's an extremely awkward and idiotic attempt to attack Harris because she doesn't have any children that are biologically her own and is pretty moronically doubling down on it.

Pretty much this.

Combined with the idea they have in their head that Republicans are a bunch of God fearing country bumpkins and all they do is reproduce, compared to how many singles and couples that decide not to have children tend to be Liberals.

Basically trying to create an "Us vs Them" narrative.

He thinks it will resonate with the parts of the base that consist of religious extremists and men who blame women for their failure.

Does he really believe it? Who knows and who cares? Vance is a spineless pick me type who will do and say whatever he thinks will please his masters.

In Vance's view, it is the women who choose not to breed who are denying men sex

So his views very much resonate with incels.

He specifically called out "childless cat ladies" and he's a Republican, you don't need him to specify to know he's blaming women.

What a fuckin' shocker that you're in here deflecting for him.

The evangelical Right is obsessed with the traditional nuclear family being the only model of any value in society, and Vance and Trump are desperately appealing to them. It is a completely absurd notion. My wife and I are Christians with two kids, and the idea that any part of that is the life that does and should work for everyone is ridiculous. Even more ridiculous: The thought that if you don't have kids, you can't possibly care about the future of the country. How dumb is that? I think a few of my brain cells died while I typed.

I actually don't think Vance believes any of it. He doesn't come from a stable nuclear family, and he certainly was spewing his opinions about the country and voting well before his two year old daughter was born. The only principle Vance actually holds is the one most prevalent in the GOP is a whole: "What can I say that will get people to vote for me so I get power?". This is all to make sure those far right Christians go to the polls, and has nothing to do with actual beliefs about anything. He would turn on a dime if he thought saying something else would get him elected.

It is also absurd as a political strategy. The people who he and Trump are using this line to appeal to are already voting for him, and it turns every normal person off. Beyond their thoughts on family life being creepy and weird, it is also stupid politically.

JD vance was selected as a gesture to the weird sillicon valley internet conservative movement, and most everything he says are signals to that base. Currently they are on a pronatalism thing where they believe they can outbreed demographic shifts. I am sure he doesn't actually give a shit about childless people or whatever (in fact I am sure he doesn't actually give a shit about anything except making money), he was just attempting to signal to that base for perfunctory brownie points

Unfortunately, that brand of conservatism is way less popular than Republicans seem to think it is, and he also did it in a really lame embarrassing way

Yeah, Some More News had a whole bit on this too. I'll timestamp link it below but the gist of it is that when the ultra rich's tendency to devolve into selfish anti-social weirdos is combined with right wing conspiracy ideology like "great replacement" and declining birthrates, you get this unholy union of wealthy assholes who think it's their mission to outbreed the rest of the planet.

That is the main problem yes, but people like Mush and Thiel have been banking on a base of people that care about weird niche stuff like this since the midterms, which is part of the reason republicans did so poorly. It's a continual failing on their part to translate twitter likes to votes, but they have not stopped because they are freaks in a freak bubble
