you need to look at things yourself and come to your own conclusions. just because someone believes in X which is bad, it doesn't mean that Y which they don't believe in is good

Bad logic, imo.
Any logic trying to justify government mandated databases of people's ID that can be hacked and leaked is bad logic

The reason that it isn't openly opposed so much by politicians is because the name, which would be a political nightmare to oppose, and because there's so much shit shoehorned in to the bill they actually want it to go through.

Even bad people can have good takes once in a while.

Canada usually follows suit on these kinds of laws. Might buy some time though.
The Conservatives are practically guaranteed to win the next election and are promising the same kind of legislation when they get in, unfortunately. It's going to happen everywhere.

The Internet had a good run, guess it's basically over at this point. Back to strictly emails and workplace use, and you know, filling every available corner of every device with ads.

again i'll ask... what is the logic here?

age gating the internet suggests the senate thinks that either the abusers or the consumers of the abuse are the children.

Feels like the entire senate either just does not even understand the Internet or wants to break it completely for greed.

I don't even know how'd they carry this out even if they tried. Like Utah did this with porn a couple years ago and two big porn sites no longer offer service here but over a thousand others still do...

It's greed. They just want all that money being spent on porn to be spent on something one of their political backers make.

I'm sure there would be a relatively minor increase(which is still too much), but yeah. Most people would likely just turn to some illegal avenue to get porn instead. Suddenly the corner drug dealer is dealing homemade nudie mags.
