pretty sure I saw it a few times as a kid but was too young to understand any of the deeper meanings or how it would apply to real life

That short looks vaguely familiar.

You know what the sad thing is? I think the people who most need to learn lessons from that short would instead think that it's a warning about evil foreigners and why one must rigidly enforce national borders, because the threat in the story is the fox behind the fence. :-/

They barely make cartoons for children anymore. Though to be fair, they weren't originally for children in the first place. Which is obvious to anyone who's ever seen any 40s/50s cartoon from Disney/Warner Bros/Tex Avery/etc.

So it's kind of disingenuous to say this disproves that Disney is "kiddiefied" because a) this wasn't made for kids, and b) Disney has absolutely changed since then.

Ironically, modern Disney acts a lot more like the fox in that story.

I think the saddest thing is that most of the people who need to learn lessons from that short would instead think that they're the clever ones who have everything figured out and that other people need to learn lessons from that short.

Everyone wants to see themselves as Cocky Locky, when most of them are Chicken Little.

I mean, Disney cartoons today are made more for kids than cartoons back then. In general, there are very few adult-only cartoons (produced for US markets, anyway). It tends to be a crossover market where cartoons try to appeal to children and adults. Something like X-Men '97 is very specifically catering to an audience that was young back during the show's original run, but I'm assuming it still has kids watching it.

But the original Disney cartoons were also being made at a time when comics had a broader appeal as well (ie, as opposed to being across all ages, but extremely niche today), so it's understandable.

Watch Tom and Jerry

There's a couple; Two Mouseketeers and Blue Cat Blues

There's another where Jerry is baiting Tom with catnip and when Tom dies at the end his ghost chases Jerry, but I can't find the episode number/name. For all I know it was a custom episode for a home video compilation exclusive to Canada, but unlikely (it does happen with some shows tho)

very few adult-only cartoons
Adult like, mature or tv-17 rated? If that's the case, yeah, there's not much adult only stuff outside of porn.
Otherwise, Sunday night on fox has quite a few shows. then you south park, American dad, etc.

Family cartoons have gotten so great these days. Cartoon Network is so flippin funny and awesome.

There are also old MGM cartoons like the Droopy shorts.

Herman and Katnip are violent as well
