In 50 C heat. Oh, and when we do turn it on, it's recommended to have it at 25 C. 25 C is what I put for winter. 25 C against 50 C heat is gonna leave the room boiling hot. I don't turn on the lights because they're unneeded, but A/C is an absolute necessity at all times.

I don't understand this post...

Where do you live that it's currently 50C? That's hot as hell! And how would setting the AC all the way down to 25C make the room boiling hot?

They recommend turning off A/C when you're not at home, but if I'm coming home from boiling heat to an enclosed space I'm not gonna wait hours while the A/C takes time to cool the room again. People have died in enclosed spaces. There was a story in India about people dying in an apartment that didn't have A/C at the height of summer heatwave.

Sorry meant that even 25C is not cool enough to combat 50C, especially after the recommendation to "turn off A/C when you leave the house" and only turn it on when you come back. It has to be at least 20C, although heck I'd take 22C. I set mine at 22.5

Ah okay, I got it now. Well depending on the AC system, it may already be cycling on and off anyway. Like at my mom's house, if you set it to 25C, it will just full blast air until the room reaches 25C. Then it turns off until it detects the room go above 25C again.

Heh that always make me laugh. You know those TV show tropes where people "run out of" hot water which I assume are set in like, Canada or the Midwest? Well that concept of running out of hot water is completely foreign to me.

Running out of cold water instead, having cold water is a luxury. The water comes out blisteringly hot from the heat. Lucky if water temp goes down to 30 C

Once the AC starts running in my complex (I guess it's central ac) it stays at 66 F till the AC is shut off for the fall/winter.
There's no way I'm coming home to a hot ass apartment or subjecting my cat to the heat.
I posted this in another thread and I'll post it here. My car is parked three levels underground and this is the temp at 3:30pm

When I had my central Ac installed they specifically said not to turn it off when not home. To not even change the temps up or down too much. It runs more efficiently when its on all the time.

Hmm I'm not sure I get what you mean here Here's my train of thought:
1.) Tc mentioned 50C & news telling people to conserve energy there.
2.) But 50C is dangerous and there's just no way the news will tell people to conserve energy in such threathening condition. Same way there's no way the news will tell people to conserve energy during freezing & threathening winter.
3.) So where exactly is tc? The place with both blazing 50C and local suggestion to regulate AC?

Unfortunately tc tiptoed around that issue and pick a story from India instead. I know such extreme condition does happen in New Delhi for example but tc's clearly not in India right now. So once again:

What are you talking about? Asking people to set the thermostat higher than normal or turn it off if you're not going to be home is pretty standard for electric utilities. It's better to have people slightly uncomfortable than it is to overload the system and start causing blackouts.

Yes and it costs you more money as well since it will run harder and longer to get it cool again.

i raise the temp 2 degrees when not at home but turning the AC off is a bad choice.
