Other than that, I hate this game

Tales games are as opinionated as Final Fantasy are. With that being said it is my favorite game in the series and the peak of the series. I agree the amnesia trope with Sophie is lame but eh, ultimately I don't care. I liked the rest of the story fine enough. I quite liked having a childhood arc before going to the next arc and being older.

Loved the cast. Really enjoyed the nice saturated/bright color palette of the game and overall aesthetic. Battle system was the most fun to me in the series. I liked being able to equip titles. I love the dualizing system. I like the way cooking was handled with the eleth mixer.

Overall to me this was an outstanding game and still remains at the top for me. Got platinum trophy on PS3 and loved every minute of it.

Not the worst Tales game, but far from the best. As someone for whom usually isn't bothered by it, it goes a little too hard on the power of friendship.

I do need to replay it though, it's been a while. Off the top of my head though, only mainline games I can think of that I like less are Zestiria and Xillia 2.

I never was too crazy about the A B arte tree battle system (when it comes to tales of combat systems, my favorite systems by far are all the ones that make tales of feel like a 2D fighting game. Tales of eternia/destiny 2 on the PS1 straight up played like street fighter alpha once you got the combo command accesory, and the 3D but on a 2D plane tales of games like symphonia>abyss>destiny PS2>vesperia>xillia 1>xillia 2>innocence R>hearts R follows this same type of gameplay. I love the freedom with the ability to jump and do air combos....you can't do any of this with the graces F style arte tree system, which plays on-rails), but I did like the parrying mechanic. Reason I hate tales of zestiria so much is because it's battle system is a spin-off of graces Fs but with the actual fun bits either stripped away or toned down.

Its ok. Music is pretty unremarkable and the main story is infamously bad, but what carries the game for entertainment is the characters w/ the really good skits. (Especially when richard joins the crew and him+malik start having a grand ol' trolly time in the future story arc).

probably my favorite tales game that ive played. I think i played that xillia, vesperia, berseria and symphonia, before deciding the series isnt quite good enough for me to want to play when there are so many other games.

I don't really feel like I ever felt like I had mastered the combat system.

I still need to finish it, but I did like the game a lot.

It's the most recent Tales game I've actually played, if Vesperia's definitive version doesn't count.

I've had both Xillia 1 and 2 for years but haven't started them yet. And now my PS3's disk drive is broken.

Anyway, I thought the game was alright. Pascal is a national treasure, though.

Only tales game I played. I liked it enough. Probably would have given it a solid 7/10 or so.

the music mostly sucks, the voice acting sucks, and the characters are awful. combat is decent though

One of the best Tales of games, combat is absolutely amazing and the gameplay of the characters is quite distinct so you can rotate the characters and never feel tired of playing.

Despite liking the game, I do agree Asbel pushes the 'I have to save my friend no matter what!' angle waaaaay too long. Like dude, I get wanting to save your friend (who you knew for what, a days worth of time, as a kid?), but when even that said friend says to please stop him by killing him, plus having killed a lot of people himself before and after asking Asbel to do so, just do it already! I swear you are not a bad guy for doing it! And yeah, I know in the end/after story it works out best he didn't, but at the time it was happening (story AND real life since that dlc hadn't existed yet at the time), he had ZERO percent chance of knowing that.

It's "Naruto" levels of taking the 'saving your friend' angle too far. Maybe worse even.

My favorite combat in the tales series. Fairly generic story tho.

Combat is amazing, easily the best part of the game. Wish they would use that style again.

Everything else is mid to bad, but I will say that the Future chapter is actually decent.

Its absurdly bad.

The story is peak 2010s tell dont show. Characters will talk at eachother about everything yet you rarely see anything happen. Characters carry the stupid-ball for a long time. Cant tell whats wrong with your friend who suddenly murders people and has demonic eyes now? This is peak dumb anime because kids are dumb energy. Characters scream everything. Or repeat everything. One character has no personality. One is just girl. Pascal or whatever is loud and comes closest to having a personality but it is just anime loud. The purple hair robot girl can be funny.

The battle system gets praised but it isnt special. Yeah its fast. But enemy variety is so low that you just repeat the same trash combos over and over and it makes you wonder why you even need battles if the game wont do anything interesting with them.

Game is also extremely linear. You follow straight hiking trail paths. No overworld. Hardly anything to do.

Voice acting is bad.

Graphics are bad. Animations are bad. Music is boring.

It is the worst in the series and one of the most boring games ive ever played, and i dont want this recent nostalgia boost to trick people into thinking it is good.

I never played it but just from being around the scenes I heard gameplay was great everything else around it was terrible in Graces F. Not sure how much things have changed by now. I liked the button mashy, aggression with Velvet in Tales of Berseria. You could also be at really low health and keep the aggression up if ya wanted to risk it. I never tried another character there once. I should have, but I liked her too much.

Yeah I mentioned a recent game I knew better, but I try not to lie or be too influenced by popular opinion. I am not a Tales savant.

The battle system was pretty cool. My praise ends there. Everything else about the game was garbage.
