One tip for cat training is natural deterrence works far better than intervention. For example, if theyre climbing on top of your counter and you spray bottle them; they will climb up when youre not looking. However, upside down mouse traps with a piece of paper or something similar over them will spring and scare the cat away from the area.

Sometimes it takes a few scares for them to stop, cats are naturally curious and like smelling out their whole territory, but boundaries can be very important given their ability to climb almost anything. They also dislike sticky substances, especially on their paws. But they will use stiff plastic type stuff for tooth cleaningso packing tape for example can be both a deterrent or something theyre drawn to.

Observation is just really important. Humans make too many assumptions about animal behavior, and forget cats are basically just like young children with keen senses and a poor grasp of audible language. Words can be taught, but theyre only ever likely to grasp one or two syllables, and only if theyre spoken in a similar tone and cadence every time. Scout is a good learnable name. Suikowasnt. Kappa was. Live and learn.

Only real advice I'll contribute is, stick to plain litter. Kittens tend to go through a phase where they like to eat it.

I've been tempted to rescue some strays once upon a time. There was/maybe still is a family of short hair black and white tabbys that made their home in the stormwater drains near where I used to walk to work.

I've got 4 cats and a dog now. I can't see myself rescuing (all my cats are rescues, but not out in the wild pick ups). While I always love more furbabies, I can only imagine the chaos if I brought a stray kitten home.

I was prepared for it but he also can't jump that far yet.

The stairs are there because his vert is like six inches, he kept bellyflopping into the front of the couch and falling down.

i got to enjoy 8 years with mine.

i was the cats favorite human out of 3 people in the household.

would love to adopt another pet but have a unstable housing situation and it wouldn't be fair to them.
(pet food is moderately cheap if don't get the crap brands). vet bills is where it can be spendy (through it's lifetime, total dice roll).

would get a small dog (mixed breed preferably, a healthy one that isn't too old).

We found four kittens in a parking lot, mother was nowhere around (we think they had been dumped there). They were about two weeks old, so we took them home and raised them ourselves. That was almost five years ago.

I didn't find our kittie, a friend asked if I'd liked one. I said sure! I never had a cat before. Been about a month now and he's gotten a long with the dog now.

I found a dog wandering in the street and took it in. It didnt have a tags or chip so I kept it for 8+ years before it died. That dog had the fetch madness, I mean seriously it would have played fetch until it dropped dead if it could have.

I have also also taken in stray cats too, but I just wanted to show it does happen with dogs too.
