Sooooo back to my resist Durge Sorcerer.

I was thinking of running a team of Sorcerer, Shadowheart, Astarion, and Gale except this team is pretty fragile and lacking in physical power. But I like the idea of this team's theme of "dark secrets" (Sorc's dark urges, Shart's Shar worship, Gale's orb troubles, and Astarion...being Astarion).

So I'm thinking, maybe Shart can be the team's tank. What would be a good tank build for her that would still be thematically appropriate? I'm thinking some type of Paladin and then Gale could pick up the slack as healer? How would that work?

I made Astarion a Sorcerer for a playthrough.

My Shadowheart is kinda tanky on my drow file, even without respeccing into a life cleric (gives heavy armor proficiency). I think I gave her certain perks that helped, like Sentinel and the one that gives you +2 HP for each level. Couple that with Aid usage and her Justiciar upgrade, she ain't too shabby at all. Didn't have a second attack, though, but I guess that makes sense for tanks.

Since I killed Minthara on my playthrough, I also respecced Lae'zel into a paladin. Being a generic-ass fighter all the time is kinda lame. Note to self: let her wear the Helm of Smiting you tossed into camp storage immediately.

Oh I know you can go crazy with reclasses but I want to keep things thematically appropriate because I'm weird like that lol. Like the narrative gets too wonky when cutscene Gale talks about wizarding while gameplay Gale is a raging barbarian.

I usually give her the superiority die upgrade, so it does get kinda tiresome fourteen times in a row.

I always make Lae'zel Champion because I don't understand how Battle Master works. >_>

I can concede that champion is the least interesting.

Heck make lae'zel an EK with the returning pike and Tavern Brawler. Or give her shield and heavy armor and make her a sentinel

Damn, I'm dismantling the gith base this time. Mostly doing stealth and turning invisible afterwards, but then I realized that several days ago I got the Awakened perk, so maybe I should just straight up kill everyone. Duergars don't mess around, heh. I'm curious what the leader dude (near the entrance to Lathander's reliquary) will say when he finds out I murdered everyone, including Therrazyn, like the mongrels they are.

So after you leave the Astral Prism for the first time, your little helper gives your team "permanent" Bless, huh? I remember leaving Rosymorn en route to do the egg delivery and wondering why my usual 10-turn buff was still active. Oh well, I killed all the gith this time, other than the two rooms full of kids and their trainers.

Traded the owlbear egg to Esther. I'm curious how this'll change or avert the massacre at their HQ in act three. I'm giving it 50-50 odds, haha.

Lae'zel didn't like how I talked to Vlaa'kith either. This is how my dhomies (duergar homies) do it in my neck of the woods.

I never do the eye thing. Eye gore makes me wince. I did do it once, but enemies passed the stay hidden check more often than not so it didn't seen worth it anyway.

Yeah, but my duergar can go invisible and be a counter-duergar specialist, so it's a little funnier this way. But I get it -- the whole "see invisibility" angle isn't all it's cracked up to be. I found that out when I fought that annoying invisible devil guy in the graveyard mausoleum. Of course, this time, I can simply take everyone by surprise, kill a few dudes on my first turn, then go invisible after that and slowly whittle the masses down. (IIRC, the devil guy's invisibility is turn-based, not concentration-based like mine, so it just ends if I stall long enough.)

Might not even need that armor that gives advantage on stealth checks.

I'm following pretty much every BG3 topic that's active

I've had a few appointments lately, and the playoffs are on, so I haven't been playing as much. But, that doesn't mean my murder squad has turned over a new leaf. Just went downstairs and murdered the big ol' spider. The fall damage (and two attacks per turn) helped. I wanted to drop it down into the Underdark for a few giggles, but didn't feel like baiting it down there.

I forgot how much heavy lifting Cull the Weak can do, haha.

Well, my BG3 juice hasn't run out just yet, so I'll probably make another topic after this, just to talk about my random playthroughs.

Damn, I gotta remember to use that Quasit scroll on my other mage characters. I usually horde 'em instead of using 'em, although that changed a bit in Act 2-3.

That's because Wyll believes Auntie Ethel when she says just an old woman, not a hag. He's naive like that.

Well, Wyll just took part in killing kindly old Auntie Ethel before she could run into her torture dungeon. I've never done it before, and it was cool to do, but I had to force-exit the game because it messed everything up (icons weren't appearing, Ethel got stuck, the game started a saving loop). Guess I'll have to murderize her the old-fashioned way. That ersatz eye came in handy, though, haha.

The effectiveness of it is going to depend on what class of character it is on. The roll is dependent on what stat your class uses for spells/scrolls, so something like a fighter or barbarian is going to be bad with the eye since the stat for them (INT for fighter and I think CHA for barbs) tend to be pretty low. Its great paladins, blade warlocks, and melee bards though since they like to have high CHA stats while also being close to the enemies.

Shovel is absolutely absurdly good. Chain summons like imps and quasits have concentration based invis, which means they can reliably incur surprise rounds.

I'm sure you've done this on your Duergar already though.

Yeah, my concentrator Duergar has been murdering everything with his free invisibility, haha. I taught the summon to Wyll, but it was mostly 'cause he's the only option right now.

Also went back and killed Ethel again, but this time started with a sneak attack in her human form. I never did (yet) do the Baldur's Gate hag quest on my drow file, so I haven't learned who her co-conspirators are. One starts with 'M', but that doesn't mean much to me. (I initially thought it referred to Minthara, lol.)

Welp, that would explain it lol. Used on my barb, almost never worked.

I do have a Swords Bard file, so maybe she can use it better, if I can get past tap-tap-SQUELCH (oy, just thinking about it makes me wince >_>)

Shovel's so adorable, I went to my Gale file and learned the summon. I did it the normal way, not the scroll-scribing method, since I dunno if those spells are lost upon respeccing. Might go onto my Lantana (druid) file and do some stuff, since she's going to have her own little ranger summons. I wonder what the maximum amount of helpers you can have is? Your druid creature, Shovel, maybe some spiders from that one grenade... Haven't checked if they can benefit from Aid or not, but combine that with the Abyss Beckoners, and baby, you've (possibly) got a stew goin' on.

EDIT: Dammit, Beastmaster rangers summon, not druids. Oh well.

I mean, Druid has spells to summon things that last until long rest, I believe. No familiar from it, but I think you can have Animate Dead, Minor Elemental, Woodland Being (which can summon its own additional pet), and Elemental all active at the same time.

Don't quote me on that though. Haven't tried it myself, just read about it at one point.

Oh yeah, I do remember reading you can summon a dryad or something. Maybe I knew what I was doing when I made that character after all, haha.

And the dryad itself can summon its own wood woad

Spore Druid can get insane with the summons. You could pretty much have all of this.

• Dryad
• Dryads own summon
• 3 Ghouls/Skeletons/normal zombies
• 4 Fungal Zombies (which can also create more zombies if an enemy dies with the disease their attacks apply, though those are only temporary)
• 2 Ice Mephits
• Elemental/Myrmidon
• Vine (though it only lasts 10 turns)

Then theres the ones that you can get outside of the Druids spell list

• The 4 ghouls from Dance Macabre
• Shovel
• Us
• Cambion (from the Infernal Rapier)
• Deva (from a scroll you can get in the tower of Ramazith vaults. Which you can also have permanently with a 1 level wizard dip)
• IIRC theres also a gear piece that allows you to summon a mummy once per day.

Theres also Mage Hand (if you pick High Elf/half High Elf and pick that as your cantrip or multiclass 1 level into a class that has it) and the Spiritual weapon if you were to multiclass 3 levels into Cleric, though like theyre only for 10 turns.

I couldnt imagine playing with all those summons at once though. The downside of playing a summoner is that having to control all those summons at the same time could get very tedious. I suppose Spore Druid could make for a great solo class because of them though.

Hmm, I might need to respec my druid chick -- I think she's on the Circle of the Moon path. I'll have to go look at the upgrade flowchart again to maximize my Abyss Beckoners' usefulness.

Idk if I posted the rant here but I just don't think Moon Druid is all that fun

I haven't played as any shapeshifter yet, so I think that was the druid I was going for. I guess I could make a 16th character or something to suit my tastes, haha. Gotta think it over; doing the tutorial for the flaming sword gets pretty boring after awhile.

Uhhh, I think on one of the pages you said it was boring and had some downsides. To be fair, it does sound boring, but I don't expect druids to reinvent the wheel anyway.

All I want to do is try new builds but psyching myself up to do the Grove fight again makes me want to pound sand.

I've always had ideas for builds I wanted to do but never really went through with them. The closest I came was turning one of the random party members (that I didn't really use) into one of the thoughts I had late game to see how it would look.

Turned out decent I guess. Not crazy, but pretty solid considering this is just a basic attack.
