I'm headed to the beach soon and I want something to read that's a little less serious/challenging than what I'd normally spend my time with. So, something easy, but something funny. So far I was thinking Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Can't go wrong with Christopher Moore. Lamb is a personal favorite.

I second post 3.

Vonnegut is great if you're into dark humour and satire. My personal favourites are Sirens of Titan, Cat's Cradle and Slaughterhouse Five, but you can't go wrong with any of his stuff.

I couldn't read A Confederacy of Dunces in public because it cracked me up so much. Highly recommended.

The Screaming Staircase, from Lockwood & Co.

could marathon the series if you wanted to, too

The Alloy of Law is another good one that could turn into a series marathon. it's from the sequel series to Mistborn but it kicks ass on its own

Bill the Galactic Hero or the Ebenezum trilogy starting with A Malady of Magicks.

They have a similar kind of silliness to them as found in Hitchhiker's Guide.

I remember I used to find Dave Barry absolutely hilarious. I wonder if the novels he's been writing in the last couple decades are funny?

If you like sci-fi mixed with dark humour I'd also recommend Futuristic Violence and Fancy Suits by David Wong (he now goes by Jason Pargin)

It also has 2 sequels called Zoey Punches the Future in the Dick and Zoey is too Drunk for this Dystopia.

Came in to say this. The protagonist is basically a parody of every overly dramatic neckbeard you've ever met. It's wild how recognizable his characterization is in 2024, and written in a time where that wasn't really depicted in fiction.

I second this. The MC reminds me of a few people.

Read up on the author. It's real sad.
