He bragged about it after. So I'm wondering what good it did for anyone for him to request a oil price hike for consumers.

Trump afaik doesn't own any oil companies, so he wasn't in danger of losing that money. Oil companies themselves were willing to sell off oil for a steep discount. I do know that Trump way overpaid to fill our oil reserves, and this could possibly be why, but raising gas prices doesn't really change the fact that he paid for something they were essentially paying you to take a few weeks later.

So when gas was hitting $1.20~ during peak covid lockdowns across the nation, he called Putin and MBS and begged them to raise prices, but who exactly did this help and for what reason? If Putin and MBS wanted to raise the prices, they could have at any moment.

This never made sense to me. It didn't seem like it benefited anyone but those it would have been beneficial to in the first place.
