Less than 4 years ago, I was homeless and strung out on meth. August 27th, I will be a homeowner. Just wanted to send some positive vibes out to everybody. Just know, that no matter how fucked things get, you can achieve anything if you keep pushing, put your mind to it, and put in the work. ... Copied to Clipboard!

ArkhamOrigins posted... That's quite the turn around. What did you do?Me and my girlfriend both lived in sober living for 1.5 years. Moved into a crappy trailer. It's owned by slumlords who refuse even legally mandated repairs, but it was good enough for the time. I opened a secure credit card, and once that turned into a real card I opened another one, then another one, then another one, until I had 5 and built my credit score from sub 500 to 687. Our realtor was a major player in this, she is the wife of my girlfriend's coworker and was truly amazing - she took her time, explained things to us (we were clueless), and looked out for us by making sure we didn't make a mistake. Lielke, she insisted we do a septic inspection (not required), and it turned out the house we wanted had a 70 year old tank that was collapsing, we would have randomly been out $10k that we wouldn't have, since we had that inspection the seller fixed it so we're good. She connected us with a solid mortgage broker who hooked us up with down payment assistance, and she got the seller to roll in the bulk of the closing costs. In total with closing, inspections, survey, appraisal, it's actually costing us less to buy than it cost us to move into this falling apart trailer we rent now, all for $100 more a month. I still can't believe it's happening. ... Copied to Clipboard!
