I know that Calispo twins were trash villians and that blue haired siren girl was annoying AF. Where there any other reasons besides that because gameplay was fantastic.

I was really invested in the story from 1 and 2. I didn't like how they continued the story in 3. At all. For reasons that are spoilers.

Asides from the reasons you listed, the game was just meh. It didn't have the charm the previous Borderlands games did, and as far as villains went, Handsome Jack was just too hard to top.

Boring story and annoying brat were two main reasons.

While I loved Moze and Zane I wasn't able to get into Fl4k or Amara as much.

Agreed. It felt like a Borderlands game. Don't really know what peoples' expectations were. Apart from Handsome Jack, do people really play Borderlands for character stories?

it's loud and abrasive but has nothing underneath. it's like a bunch of loud noises and flashing lights just for the sake of trying hard not to be boring.

played some alone, played some co-op with two people, and nope. don't recall a thing. they hated it. no one had any fun. the levels we were running through were brainless. everything was just uninteresting.

and i enjoyed 2 and presequel. so...

You are right TC. I like to think I am a pretty big borderlands fan (absolutely loved 1 for it's time and just played the hell out of part 2. I didn't like the pre-sequel as much as 1 or 2 but I did play through it about 3 times regardless) and honestly, the actual gameplay was pretty on-point for borderlands 3.

The story is genuinely shit though and whoever they got for writers just did not get why funny situations worked in part 1 or 2. (To be fair I felt the writing quality also dropped a good bit for the pre-sequel, just that part 3 was way worse). What they did with the dude from tales of the borderlands vaughn with the bandiiit lyyyfeeee!!!! thing when he showed back up for the commander lilith boderlands 2 DLC and borderlands 3 proper?........yeah, that was a travesty. The shit got old like, 10 minutes in. That wouldn't have happened for a character in part 1 or 2 (in borderlands 1's case, most characters did not live long enough for their quirk to cringe the hell out of you, or if they are like doctor zed and borderlands 1 tannis they are just enough in the background and not constantly in your face that said quirks won't quickly run thin. Tannis' whole crazy thing isn't something I actually want to have in my face for an entire game long because it would get old this way........fuck, that is exactly what they did when they made the already super smart quirky crazy scientist lady a siren and a very central/important character.....well more important and essential than she already wasin part 3, =/. Like, did we really genuinely need this, for it to be her specifically? She was already pretty damn important as a background scientist character.

Almost every single new character and their "character quirk" just......sucked ass. Also all the borderlands 2 vault hunters aside from zero who was barely there and maya just fell off a cliff. Sure they used some of them for boderlands 3 DLC like gaige but said DLC was eh. Krieg's was ok, but then it reminded everyone of the bullshit maya went through in the main game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again when it comes to video games I can always play a game if the gameplay is mad fun, so this is why I stuck around to try out borderlands 3's post-game stuff. Still though I can see why those who need a good plot to carry them through a video game didn't like borderlands 3.

I think ice T's bear character was the only new borderlands 3 character I actually liked. That and the explorer dude.

As a huge Blands fan, I actually never finished Borderlands 3.

I felt like they had an awesome starting point from the end of 2, where all the vaults across the galaxy are revealed and instead we went on some mission trying to find some people doing some shit.

I enjoyed it, but didn't love it.

Story was meh. The Krieg dlc was a god damn disappointment. They literally had the building blocks to make the best DLC that's ever existed and somehow managed to screw that up.

Instead they started the story after Mayas death instead of just before so we could see Kriegs inner mind absolutely lose it. Which if you've played the DLC you know it follows Tinas DLC from the 2nd game.

It had the building blocks to be amazing. But it pulled a reverse Pre-Sequel. The story in the Pre-Sequel was great. The world was gray. The story in 3 sucked. But the world looked great. Oh... and they fired Claptraps original VA.

on PC the UI was a terrible console port.

there's no reason for a loot game's inventory being that annoying

  • Terrible story
  • Comedy was a huge step down from where BL2 was at (granted it had been on the decline with TPS too, but still sticks out when BL2 was so well loved).
  • Ava was a terrible character that anyone who was a halfway decent writer could tell would piss off a lot of people.
  • Villains were awful.
  • Poor handling of certain characters (namely Maya and Hammerlocks sister. Lilith wasnt handled well either).
  • On the flip side, other characters that people wanted to see again were either barely in the game (Mordecai, Brick, and Tiny Tina) or werent even in the game at all (the BL2 Vault Hunters aside from Zer0 and Maya, though DLC did end up bringing them all back in some way).
  • Balancing early on was poor, with nerfs being too extreme while buffs (in most cases) werent enough to make up for it. IDK how it is now, though considering last I played they had made Moze great again after having nerfed her into the ground early on, Im assuming they got better with their balance patches.
  • Unskippable cutscenes (as well as not being able to skip certain periods where you had to wait for characters to finish a long conversation before you could move on), which was a big problem for a game that wanted you to play through it multiple times. IDK if theyve changed that since then.
  • Endgame was very weak, especially with there being a severe lack of raid bosses. IDK if DLCs fixed that.

Im sure theres other stuff Im missing, but those were the problems that stuck out the most to me.

And in certain cases they reverted some of those buffs. I remember joking about how one of the patch notes would be:
  • Reverted changes on Atlas rifles that caused people to actually use them
It didn't help that you had a specific Youtuber who always promoted the currently broken combinations in the game, to the point where Gearbox just watched his channel directly to determine their next patches.

Performance on pretty much all platforms, except the base xbox one and maybe another, were poop. I found it weird how it actually ran flawless on my base one, but kept restarting/crashing my friend's one x. Ignoring the other issues.

Story for some reason, felt so... "ok, but super forgettable". I legit was reminded of the game the other day and was thinking about how forgettable it was and trying my best to remember it. I don't even know who the fourth character is, I was thinking Soldier 76, then realized that was the wrong game entirely which in itself says a lot.

Other than being forgettable, "eh" story... I very much felt it was ok as a whole. The only thing I really remembered from it was the ship hub and playing as Moze with a high rof/capacity gatling AR for the lulz. I definitely had more memories and such with the first 2, and never touched prequel/tiny tina.

I finished BL1, BL2, TPS. BL3 just didn't click with me.

Could be burnt out on the franchise, idk.

I should really get back to Tales after stopping at act 2.

only bad part of the story was Ava, they had no fucking clue what they were trying to do with her and it shows and comes off worse than everything else in the entire series

everything else about 3 is great, and the DLCs all had great stories too
even Ava had a fun set of DLC quests that had nothing to do with her nonsensical main story role

I thought it was fun in 2019 or 2020 idr when it released. I bought it day 1

Idk if id still have fun playing it nowdays. not really into a ton of action games anymore they just don't hit me as hard anymore

Some of the characters were annoying, yeah. I have a high tolerance for it though so it didn't bother me much. Uhh idr the story at all and idc about it anyways

The plot, the characters, characters and guns getting nerfed to shit, content locked behind GAAS shit so you can't even access parts of the game depending on what part of the year you play it, and it didn't even ship with a raid boss.

I did like Wotan the Invincible though.

One thing I found funny is that one of the Wonderlands characters has FL4K's un-nerfed action skill, and ofc they didn't go back to un-nerf it.
