https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2024/aug/07/kamala-harris/kamala-harris-says-donald-trump-intends-to-cut-med/

During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump has repeatedly said he would not cut Medicare.

As president, though, Trump regularly proposed policies that would have reduced Medicare spending.

Like what in the literal fuck. Two sentences that literally contradict. What he said and what he did are two different things. I'd say actions speak louder than words.

The only truthful statement Trump has ever made is that he could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose any voters because of it.

I googled and WashingtonPost said this isn't true. Is WashingtonPost a Republican news source to be defending Trump?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/08/19/no-every-trump-budget-did-not-seek-cut-social-security-medicare/

However, what Trump did as President in terms of budget proposals went far beyond waste and fraud. Trump proposed substantial spending cuts in Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid in every single one of his budgets as President, the Washington Post reported earlier this year.

Is Forbes lying?

https://www.forbes.com/sites/joshuacohen/2024/03/12/former-president-trumps-history-of-proposing-cuts-in-medicare-spending/

So who's lying here? It's either Washington Post or Forbes.

According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, the last budget the Trump Administration put forward in February 2020the 2021 budgetincluded approximately $500 billion in net Medicare spending reductions over ten years, most of which would come from reduced payments to hospitals and healthcare providers. Though the cuts wouldnt have affected Medicare beneficiaries directly, tighter eligibility rules for long-term care services would have limited access, saving $34 billion but putting care out of reach for some.

Based on the URL, I'm assuming they're spinning it from, "See, he totally forgot to cut medicare spending in this one proposal, that was more like a rough draft anyway, but details schmetails."

What kind of dumb ass would call that "mostly false"? The absolute best you could do is "we can't judge this as what Trump has done is inconsistent with what he says" project 2025 seems to want to make medicare private with "medicare advantage" or something and project 2025 is what Trumps policy would largely be in another term.

So who's lying here? It's either Washington Post or Forbes.

I didnt quote my article maybe I should for those that dont click/read it...

Politicians (and reporters) usually discuss the numbers $350 billion in cuts with little context. Medicare is such a huge program more than $10 trillion over 10 years that a figure like that amounts to a relatively small percentage. The overheated rhetoric also ignores this reality: Virtually all of these anticipated savings would be wrung from health providers, not Medicare beneficiaries. Hospitals and doctors object, sometimes vehemently, but often these are good-government reforms intended to make Medicare run more efficiently and with lower costs.

Given the strength of hospital and doctor lobbies, its difficult to enact such changes. Barack Obama borrowed a lot of his ideas for squeezing providers from George W. Bushs budgets. Then Trump borrowed Obamas unfilled requests such as charging the same rate for office visits whether a doctor works at a hospital or elsewhere and put them in his budgets. Trump didnt have much luck either. In any case, even if provider cuts are enacted, Congress later will sometimes halt or reduce the changes in response to political pressure.

So they admit that he wants to cut it. But because the cut is only .5% of the budget, it doesn't count.

Holy shit. Washington Post is clearly full of shit here and doing HEAVY lifting for Trump's lies.

As I said, Forbes cites Washington Post saying Trump has attempted to cut the medicare budget in every single one of his government spending bills. Then they're turning around and saying it's not true that Trump has attempted to do so.

So clearly the Washington Post is losing credibility here. And I'm not carrying water for Forbes, they fucking suck, but it's clear WaPo is flip flopping hard here and as mentioned, really trying to play the semantics game.

I didnt quote the part right before which kinda gives a better introduces the story.

Both political parties make misleading claims about Medicare cuts, depending on which party holds the presidency. The game is played this way: When a presidents budget is released, politicians from the opposing party will claim that any difference over 10 years between anticipated Medicare spending (what is known as the baseline) and changes in law intended to reduce spending are devastating cuts that will harm seniors who rely on the old-age program.

It seems like one of those things where it depends on who the target is you agree with this line of attack. If WashingtonPost telling truth and both parties use the same attack of (insert politician) going to cut Medicare.

This all depends on if WashingtonPost a trustworthy source. If they became Republican I had no idea and apologize.
