I think they look super cool and Ive done a lot of research on how to take care of them properly. The problem is, my dad isnt on board with the idea. He thinks they look messy and unprofessional, but I really want to show him that they can be neat and stylish if taken care of correctly.
Does anyone have any tips or advice on how I can convince him? Maybe some good points I can bring up or ways to show him that dreadlocks can be a positive thing? Any help would be awesome!

Unless youre dad is a piece of shit or you live in an extremely conservative community, it's incredibly unlikely you're gunna get kicked out over a hair style.

More likely youre just going to be passively aggressively mocked.

And if I'm wrong, it's just hair. You can chop it off.

In today's world it's beneficial to still live with the family if you ain't got a significant other who's sharing the bills.

Neither my mom or myself could really afford to live in our own. Hell I pay more than she does. But guess what I still have some rules I gotta follow. She will pull that "I'm still your mother" card. That said if I feel strongly about something I'll put my foot down but you gotta know how to pick your battles.

Like for example there was a time I was paying all the bills period. She still expected me to be the one to take the trash out. I coulda been like I have a job you don't you take the trash out. But no that's not worth the headache it would cause. On the flip side she kept insisting the living room gets rearranged. After awhile of just ignoring her I finally told her that I was the only one who used the damn living room and I liked it's set up. I wasnt about to take the time and effort to move everything to how she wanted it when I was the one paying for everything and me being as said the only one who actually spent time in there.

I hear they can be painful, but I had no idea, and could she heard incorrectly.

I'm 33,still live with my parents due to some medical issues I have, its beneficial to all of us, I do.a lot of stuff they can't do around the house considering they're 73 and 62.

There's no real rules here, we respect each other's privacy too.
