Anyway, this is probably only happening because Noel recently got divorced and owes a huge settlement. I'd like to think they made up but money talks. Hopefully the whole thing goes off as planned and doesn't explode in spectacular fashion.

I saw Noel Gallagher perform once and the crowd kept yelling Wonderwall like 8 songs after he already played Wonderwall. Dude got so pissed he started cursing at the crowd, disconnected his mic and chucked it into the crowd then walked off stage lol

Yeah, I remember people comparing them to the Beatles. I was in my Fab Four phase at the time, so those comparisons made me dismiss their music. Looking back, they are really good.

Why did you not quote the rest? Oasis compared themselves to the Beatles so a lot of people did follow up with a comparison. Almost always, it was some variation of "Oasis is nothing compared to the Beatles"

While I never liked them to me they are one of the examples I use to point out how massive regional differences can be.

From a United States standpoint I can totally see why people have an impression of them being a 1 hit wonder. The only album to really make a splash in the U.S. sales wise was (What's the Story) Morning Glory? It sold like 4 million copies and pretty much everyone heard Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova. But that really was it for just most casual radio listeners.

They never had a #1 album though they came close. They only had 3 songs reach the Billboard top 100 with Wonderwall being the highest at #8. That was the only one in the top 40 as the other two reached 55 and 93. Even the often played well known Champagne Supernova failed to break the top 100 in the U.S.

Their last 4 albums barely broke 200,000 copies or were under in the U.S. Worldwide they are a huge band and obviously the UK loves them. All 7 of their albums went number 1 there. They have a ton of number 1 and top 10 songs. 22 top 10 hits there. They are massively successful.

But at the end of the day it really isnt a stretch to say that many people in the U.S. would view them as a 1 hit wonder. That doesnt mean there arent fans who love and know multiple albums/songs by them. They definitely were more well known like on alt college radio. But the general public and the actual charts? They have 1 top 10 hit. Thats it.

For us older folks its similar to a band called Madness. In the U.S. they had the hit Our House that reached number 7. Outside that there is one other song that broke the top 40 at 33 and isnt known very well. They are basically a 1 hit wonder here but it would be blasphemous to call them that in the UK. They have a ton of hits in the UK. Like 16 top 10 hits in the UK.

These two are always my best examples of how regional differences can be quite different.

Liam's a better front man and stage presence, but Noel's the better song writer. (And yes, both are bellends, haha.)

I think that both of their solo projects have shown that they both have something really important that the other needs.

It's interesting that HFB are going to be on the instruments for the new shows - if none of the other original members were willing/able to come back I would have thought that they'd have picked up some session players specifically for these shows - not being funny, but with the bad blood (and, much as a lot of it is probably generated for publicity/image, there is still legit beef there) I would have thought they would have aimed to make the stage more "neutral ground"

If Eddie and David Lee Roth could do it, damn it so can Noel and Liam lol

Absolute superstar over here, and everyone knows all the lyrics to all his songs (even the shit ones like Rudebox are beloved because they're shit) but despite fully relocating to the States years ago he practically (if not fully) unknown over there.

I think it's because he's just too British to translate to an American audience. A scruffy guy who can't really sing very well, and definitely can't dance, wandering around in trackies with a bit of a beer belly and an ever present cigarette is the antithesis of the very polished pop scene over there, but is exactly the sort of figure all of us Brits will latch on to and take to our hearts.

Admittedly I dont know a single song by him. I do know him though because I love the Graham Norton show and like to watch it here on my BBC America channel and have seen him on there and think some of his stories are hilarious. Ive watched other clips when hes been on and every time hes the best guy on the couch to listen to.

Out of curiosity I went to YouTube and listened to a song and quickly decided in about 30 seconds its not for me. But there is a lot of people like that for me. Lewis Capaldi was another one like that for me. Hilarious on the show and I could listen to him talk stories all day. Hes a borderline comedian but I dont like his music at all.

At the peak of your popularity with a ton of stadium ballad bangers under your belt and in the middle of what is at that point [since beaten only by Eras, I believe] literally the biggest and most successful world tour of all time (including the very first concert to ever be broadcast live in HD)? Use it as a platform to launch a rap record because fuck it. Got a deal to do a televised show from the Royal Albert Hall with accompanying album where you perform Swing classics alongside legends like Nicole Kidman, Jon Lovitz and the ghost of Frank Sinatra? Get your former flatmate and decidedly not musical pal Jonny to do a song with you on stage, because fuck it. Fancy releasing a Christmas song? Why not make it a duet with actual Tyson Fury singing about shagging someone at the office Christmas party because fuck it.

I mean it when I say he is quite possibly the single most British pop star of all time, haha.

Absolutely love Robbie Williams. Rudebox is a bit shit but it's at least catchy plus the album has a few decent tracks like Lovelight (I did like the way he worked Rudebox in to the medley during the Progress tour with Take That). It's wild how he put out so many hit albums in such a short amount of time. He was releasing a new album every year at one point. Hopefully one day he'll have another album besides the Greatest Hits and Christmas stuff because I really enjoyed The Heavy Entertainment Show too.
