good question... they really shouldn't put appointments so close to or on major holiday's.

i had to reschedule mine because they put it on juneteenth and the bus didn't run.

i would choose appointment if it's something serious for health related reasons.

9 times out of 10, I'd say take the day off and go to the doctor.

Unless you know for absolute certain you'd be fired and really need the job, there's basically no other reason why your job should take precedent over your health.

This.

If theyre willing to penalise you for going to a single medical appointment, they arent worth working for anyway.

If its an appointment that can be scheduled that far off it can be scheduled for a day that wont give you a four day weekend with Labor Day.

Staffing is a problem after holidays. Which is why they immediately said no.

I have approximately 75 drivers and 24 people loading them. I hear all of them as well as the good ways to call in.

And while I hear a lot of these requests most of them tend to fall into two buckets - sudden emergency/illness to avoid some task they object to; or delay fallout from some kind of fuckup.

This one though is the third smaller bucket; taking the day before or after the holiday when youve got no seniority.

Besides if there was actually an appointment for a medical issue tc would just go, the doctor would write something and its over.

you're on meds. This is required routine. It's important enough. Your employer wouldn't give a shit if you died. If anything they'll hope there's no beneficiary to your name and probably try to avoid cooperating with whoever that is.

Yes the underlying fact is I, as well as others here, are unapologetically suggesting your employer is ass and this is a good sign to start job hunting as motivation.

Brit here, just my thoughts.

It's part of Human Rights (we have a UK version but it's also a right of the WHO, which I'm guessing companies don't want to fuck around with) that you can seek healthcare where needed. The cost of said healthcare isn't part of this point, moreso that you are able to seek urgent/critical healthcare.

If you had said "oh yeah I just wanted to see if this tattoo could hurt" then yep, on your bike, that's not important. However if it's a kidney function test, then go and get it sorted. I'm assuming you're in the US, so just call a lawyer if you need to.

FWIW I recently suffered with severe anaphylaxis. Two ambulances, an overnighter in critical care, and 4 epipens. My sister had to call my colleagues and boss to explain that I was in hospital and wouldn't be back to work the next day. I got the rest of the week off, my on-call shift covered, and regular check-ins. Work paid the 10 for the extra 2 epipens above the ones I received, because I said if it's life-and-death, you don't want to waste 7 minutes finding my keys and getting my epipens out of my car - I didn't pay a penny for nearly dying.

To summarise - your health comes first. Look after yourself. If you were whining about a paper cut then I'd happily tell you to grow up - but if you've got kidney issues and need regular checkups, don't fuck about. Get them done. I know the US does things differently from the UK but whereas you may have to pay for healthcare, access to it shouldn't be denied.

Jobs are required to give some form of sick time and sick time can be used for appointments.
In a sense, the job is giving you the time off, they're just being difficult.
