I have just under 7.5 years to lv39.

TBH it doesn't really make much difference, once you're above a few thousand, karma means fuck all.

I would not be surprised if fandom decided to nix the karma and offer a gift card to the fandom store, with each karma point you have being worth one gift point. 5,000 gift points are equivalent to 5.00.

Is losing karma to moderations even a thing anymore? Or is it basically just "you got moderated. Either its a basic moderation, or you are now warned/banned from the stand/similar"?

10 Karma is lost for a "Warning". For "Purgatory" (given out for the most serious violations), any amount of Karma can be lost.
