My kids are gonna love it, Im indifferent to it, but despite Jack Black saturation I cracked up when he said he was Steve.

My nieces love Minecraft, so I imagine they'll be wanting to see this movie.

Kids will probably love it. It looks like a horrible movie though.

I got the vibe of "this is gonna be an awful movie" when watching that trailer. Jack Black will probably be the only redeemable factor.

I mean, I know Minecraft doesn't have a huge story to begin with, but you could've easily done something with the Wither, the Ender Dragon, or even Herobrine without it being connected to the real world.

Story Mode showed you can do a Minecraft story without the isekai stuff

Realistically, there's a few ways they could go.

1) They do have to fight an evil wizard/Herobrine like you said, and that incorporates the Ender Dragon (which I will say, if they do bed spam defeat of the dragon in the movie, 10/10, no notes)

2) They go a similar route of having them have to leave, with them having to find an End Portal and getting the eyes of Ender necessary to escape after the first portal is blown up by a Creeper.

Apparently this movie has had around 40 writers over time. For comparison, the original Flintstones movie also had around 40 writers.

My daughter lost her shit seeing the teaser, I suspect the movie is going to do VERY well even if it's not being made for us since it's so clearly being made with her and her friends in mind.

Also considering the director? I mean he did Napoleon Dynamite, I'm sure when I see this with my kid that it'll have enough in there aimed at parents that I won't be bored.

The thing is that the entertainment landscape has conditioned adults to want to watch things that previously were meant mostly for children.

Is Minecraft going to have it's og mario movie moment?

I just asked my nieces about an hour ago if they've seen the trailer, and they both said that it looks stupid and disappointing.

Anecdotal, but showed my 10 year old sister the trailer without revealing my personal opinion over it.

She was not into it.

Could never get into Minecraft but this looks like a fun movie. Jack Black has a direct line to my wallet.

while i don't mind the visuals (even tho they could be improved a bit), not sure how i feel about the idea of mixing CGI with live action. would have preferred if they went the full CGI route but i'll wait for the movie to drop then judge it properly...
