Last few times I went back to it, I spent days setting up the mods, and then got bored of it after a few hours. I've been meaning to give the VR version a go. Maybe the immersion form that will be the shot in the arm the game needs for me.

I use that list and run it on Ultra. It's really good and the author of the list just released 2.2 of it. I especially like the addition of spears and new animations. It's surprisingly stable for such a giant list.

How much config work do you need to do or does it actually work out of box?

Most of the work on your end is simply following the pre-installation instructions which aren't complicated. Wabbajack does most of the heavy lifting and it's pretty easy and straightforward to use, a Nexus account is mandatory here.

assuming it's literally just copy/pasting the uploader's game settings, it should work fine as long as it's done with a clean install

*most* problems people have with skyrim mods are because they try to change them in the middle of a playthrough, or use mods that are incompatible, and they don't fix the load orders.

but this is also me assuming the video uploader did all that stuff correctly. it could still fail miserably for anyone else

You really don't need to fiddle with the mods or anything like that. The system is automated by Wabbajack, it's like installing a normal game.

Is it really though? Every time I get suckered into this shit I spend like a week doing body slides, messing with enb series configs, and stuff like FNIS or whatever they're using now for new animations.

there's nothing wrong with body slides in mod packs since that's a setting that doesn't really effect anything if the mod pack is put together well. *some* settings you can choose on your own, but with even 100 mods, nevermind 3400, there are some things you won't be able to adjust

At least for me I didn't mess with any of that stuff. I followed the pre-install instructions which were mostly setting up a folder, downloading two programs and setting up a pagefile and proceeded to download the list off Wabbajack. It took a few hours downloading 300+gb worth of mods but it just involved waiting. After that I ran Mod Manager from the LoreRim folder created during pre-installation and choose Ultra as the profile and ran the game. That's all I had to do.

If you have custom armor and custom bodies you have to do the body slides otherwise when you put the armor on it squishes your body into whatever the default unmodded body is so yeah you do have to do it. Unless you're saying this mod pack somehow comes with the body slides already done.

All armor works out of the box even if you fiddle with the more advanced sliders in the character creation screen. Even if you pick the default options you don't have to mess with anything else. Here's a pic of the current character I'm playing with and didn't have to mess with anything even with the custom body and legs.

I'm saying the armor always works it just undoes your body morphs. EG make a super fat dude, equip chest plate, suddenly he's skinny.

You didn't say anything about animations though so I'm guessing that's already done for you?

oh I see what you mean

yeah Im not sure if there are any armor mods that let you put a fat guy in their armor. Maybe Lancel is still searching for the breastplate stretcher

Ah okay. I see what you mean. I haven't tested it out with the extreme body types but for most normal body types it works well. A big burly nordic dude wearing armor will look like a burly guy wearing armor, a petite character looks petite when wearing armor. Like my character would still have the same body type if she wears the Whiterun Guard armor while the Whiterun Guard is going to look like a big guy wearing the black ebony armor. Armor matches the body type created from what I've seen.

Yes, animations are done with no input necessary. There's a lot of neat 3rd person animations too.

The way you fix this problem is with the body slide mod. It's just fucking tedious. Basically you make a preset or download one, then run body slide, load your preset, and it morphs the armor directly into your game. You also need a separate mod to make it so that you have a unique body otherwise every character in the game ends up looking like you when they're in armor. And then if you ever want to change anything you have to exit and do it all over again.

I don't think there's a way to do it dynamically in game even with injection like skse.

For the sake of experiment, I went ahead and tested out how weird body shapes look wearing armor. Mind you the males don't have as detailed option as females because they use cbbe morphs. The armors that I've tested do morph to the body and you don't need to mess with any sliders.

The guys are probably using Better Males or something which is basically the same as CBBE. So that's pretty cool.

Both males and females share the same body scale options but female characters get a more detailed creation options from the ccbe morph options. Like trying to make a super fat male character can look a little off vs trying to do the same with a female character.

It was running great except I was getting a little bit of stutter. So last night was literally all spent just downloading one mod that optimizes textures. Took literally the entire night to run this mod.

No I get why people say this. Sure you absolutely can play games without mods.

But PC gamers always talk about mods like they're the be all end all. No one talks about what a headache they can be sometimes. Or what a pain in the ass diagnosing different problems are.

On my end it has been pretty stable. Biggie, the guy behind the list, released version 2.2 recently and that has helped a bit in stability. Before I got a crash maybe once every two hours but now it's been smooth even with longer play sessions.

ScazarMeltex posted...
The question I have is this. Does it make it any less of a boring slog? I say this as someone who has logged 500 hours in the game over 2 versions, so I clearly enjoy some aspect of it. It just feels sort of soulless to me at this point.
The list uses an XP system instead of the one used in Skyrim and I think that makes it more fun. Skills are capped to level, for example you can only reach level 75 in skills at lvl 25 and 100 at level 50, and you can only raise a skill by 5 per level. The foundation of the list is Requiem which makes the game harder in some ways. There are not more damage sponge bandits but at the same time they can kill you in a few hits if you're not prepared.

You shouldn't really add any more mods to the lists, that's done at your own peril. These modlists aren't just a collection of mods, they're also maintained by the modlist author so they can run together without much issue so adding other mods is taking a risk. This list can be pretty taxing on your system especially inside cities, my fps dips to around 30-40 in some of the bigger cities. But it's good that your issue got fixed.

I asked in the discord how I could improve the stuttering and that was the advice I got.

I wouldn't add a fucking thing more to 3600+ mods by my own doing I'm not dumb.
