Ehhhhhh depends how you're city is setup. A 5.1 could be disastrous in some places.

You have to be stick huts and open piping for any real damage from a 5.

There was a decent one about a month ago too. I remember seeing a news clip on Sportscenter on a host doing a show in L.A. and the entire set shaking pretty bad. This one today they said people felt it in Orange County about 45 miles away. It originated 4 miles north of Malibu and about 7 miles deep. Thats a pretty decent shake too.

I googled and got random earthquake facts about California. California gets thousands of them per year but about 15-20 of them go over 4.0. So this one seemed to be one of those bigger ones. While not a massively devastating one its certainly one to take note of.

I didn't, but my girlfriend did. She freaks out about earthquakes. She said she felt 3 aftershocks.

Yeah, unfortunately we do get a lot of them, but only the larger ones are really noteworthy. The one last month was further east, so it was also felt in the 2 counties to the east of LA county.

That and the soil. If the soil is mostly sand, you roll a lot more than say, granite. Depth also makes a difference.

On topic, 5 is the beginning of the spectrum of mentionability, IMO. Gets your attention, but that's it. Sixes, sevens and above are worth calling someone about. YMMV.
