I'm not asking for pity or anything like that, but I've been making a lot of topics lately and haven't really broken it all down.

Can't find a job anywhere, been looking for several months. I'm just not given a chance no matter where I go, despite having nearly six years of retail experience (with the three retail jobs I've had, it pretty much *is* six full years).

Don't have a car. No license. I have to take busses to get around, one place at a time, one trip at a time. This one isn't huge or anything, but it definitely eats away a fair portion of my day if I have errands to run (which is often).

I can barely afford food. I lost my EBT two months ago due to a change in the law at the beginning of the year. My brother lives with me and my girlfriend and still gets it, but that's only because they haven't caught up to him yet. I was supposed to lose mine in January but I flew off their radar for several months.

I live in a rundown trailer that's older than I am. Everything keeps breaking, and almost every time it does, we have to put off fixing it and when we do fix it, it sets us back. A lot.

The place I live in is kind of stressful to begin with. My girlfriend doesn't really like my brother living here, but that's an entirely different subject that would trail way off from the thread if I talked about it now. But it comes up in conversation now and again and it always makes me on edge and uncomfortable.

The only way I've been making it is by almost constantly asking my online friends to help. Usually it's just a little at a time, but I've gotten lucky a few times. As a result I feel like a deadbeat person that just uses people for money.

I can't commute to work outside of the town I live in, the only areas the bus rides cover. There is another form of public transit that takes you to downtown Baton Rouge (I live in Louisiana), but the problem is bus tickets cost money, and getting to work and back isn't guaranteed depending on my shifts. The busses stop at 8.

My brother is likely autistic and very angry at the world and probably disabled. He's very close to me and doesn't trust *anyone* else, and can't tolerate much of anything. One incident (something breaking for example) will send him spiraling for hours or possibly even days. He's also triggered by noise very easily, which happens every day in this trailer.

I've been here for 4 years and feel like I've accomplished nothing. It's roadblock after roadblock, and I also feel my brother's stress as well. He's very suicidal and is completely miserable.

So yeah, I don't feel like I have anything to be happy about. I can't get ahead, and my issue with the dryer that I mentioned in my previous thread almost sent me into a full on meltdown.

I feel like my life could be SO much better. I really just want to go to a psych ward or sleep my life away at this point, but the psych ward is only a temporary "break" from the stress that I'd be coming right back home to. Plus leaving my brother with my girlfriend worries me as well.

Fml. Maybe I'll have my year in 2082 if I'm lucky.

Also my birthday is next Monday, but I might not get anything this year (usually I get much needed money from family). We are all too broke. I'm also concerned about food next week, which is par for the course for me; this is EVERY God damn week. I can't handle it anymore.

Relaxing is almost completely impossible. I am in constant fight or flight mode every day and pretty much dread waking up. I had no idea life could be this shitty with so many things currently out of my control.

TL;DR. If youre not asking for pity, what kind of response do you want?

with your brother potentially being disabled, is there no way get your EBT back? maybe claiming him as a dependent, or something?

Hmm I'm not sure. I don't think that would work because one of the requirements for EBT now is that you work a minimum of 20 hours a week. I could claim to be homeless, but that's lying to the government.

Sorry to hear all that. What about your parents or your girlfriend's parents? Are they in the picture/can they help?

My girlfriends parents are dead, and mine are supposedly broke as well.

like, if it's in someone else's, could you claim you don't have permanent residency, or something like that?

I'm actually not on the lease at all so I suppose I'm officially homeless, but she might put me down on the new one that we just got a notice about.

That's all really rough. Sorry you're having to deal with all of that. Hope you get some valid advice in this topic! Or at least the venting helps you feel the tiniest bit better.

It likely depends on whether he has a diagnosis, which could be a problem.

It sounds like he (and most likely you) qualify for full Medicaid coverage based on income, which would also help.

It's also tricky to do without transportation but are there food banks in your area?

Or churches that do food drives?

Any businesses in walking distance? If yes I would try applying with them often, even if they dont take you one time they may later.

Topics like this really do help put things into perspective. I tend to forget how blessed I am. I was able to find a decent job starting out and have parents that let me stay at home for too long. Having a car made a world of difference with job hunting as well. I have my share of problems, but they're more personal than financial.

I understand the need to vent. Just getting it out helps a lot sometimes.

Food banks are possible but we have to Uber. I'm not sure if there are free rides to them.

We're already on Medicaid, and we applied him for disability once and he got denied. He's officially diagnosed as bipolar which probably isn't enough. There's a small bread store I've been wanting to get hired at but alas.

I passed the driving test in my hometown but I've never been in a situation where I could get a car, and my girlfriends car gave out at the start of 2023.

Depending on your area you may be able to get Medicaid transport, you could try searching that term plus your current location.

It's essentially a free to low-cost taxi service for Medicaid recipients, specifically for things like this and doctor's appointments.

Get a good disability law firm to apply for you. My dad was denied and did that they then approved and they had to give back pay from when he first applied. You dont have to pay until you win and they only take like half your first payment as payment.

Excellent advice.

TC, you could also call around to see if any of them will offer a free consultation.

Oh and if you can get a license you could rent or possibly lease a car and become a Uber delivery driver or something. Heck you can find working junk cars at used dealerships for like under a $1,000 even if it only last a very short time it could get you around for a bit of deliveries.

Yeah I know that feeling well. But thankfully you seem to have others that care about you so dont give up just yet. You can get through this! I believe in you, I know that may not mean much coming from a bozo like me, but still no matter how meaningful this bozo still believes in you, so go out there and start kicking lifes ass for a change.

Hey all you can do is try.

Oh another thing you can look into I am assuming you are in the USA if not I apologize, but anyway there are government programs that can supply cars and even homes to people in need, it wouldnt hurt to see if you qualify for such aid.

You got to keep firing man. That job youre looking for may be right around the corner. You dont lose in life until you give up. It sounds like with a steady job your situation could change quickly. Being broke is better than being in debt Ill tell you that. Keep your head up. This isnt insurmountable.

The bright side is you have a girlfriend to do life with. My gf of five years and I broke up almost a year ago now. I miss her a lot honestly but we both needed to let go.

temp agencies are pretty fail-proof for getting a job. temp agencies often work with felons and you can get permanently hired onto that job within a few months and make more money
plus all the big stores are probably hiring seasonal employees soon, if not now.
its so much easier to get a job when you already have a job. get ANYTHING you can land and work your way to something better. I almost became a trash-sorter via a temp agency. Luckily my current job called me before i had to do that but I still took the job at first

Donating plasma gives pretty good side money
You can take ubers to/from work or find someone to help you with a ride til you get on your feet. make a friend at work thats lives en route to your place. i did it for months while my car was in the shop
sounds like getting a job and license would help all of your other problems that you listed tbh

I agree with everything in this post. Temp agency will definitely get you a job.

Im not encouraging breaking the law but if you need to lie to get on your feet, so be it. I remember using an old job to get a payday loan years ago. Yeah it was unethical but I had to do what I had to do. That allowed me to stay afloat until I found full time work again and got myself out of the hole.

Again not saying break the law but man life isnt fair. If you got to lie a bit on your resume to get a job and survive then so be it.

If you are applying for an entry level job I highly doubt they look into your resume that much. Im not saying just completely make shit up but if you have to stretch the truth a little bit do you what you gotta do.

Honestly people on here will probably say not to do it but this is about survival. Do what you gotta do.

Worst case scenario you dont get the job and you are right back where you started. Not illegal to lie on a resume.

My bad but just to answer your question I dont think they typically provide transportation. The good news though is that sometimes you get paid weekly or possibly even same day.

have you looked for work-from-home jobs? basic customer service is needed everywhere. Although it might not be viable in your situation.

I know I sound like a broken record but seriously think about looking into trade school. You can legit make 100k a year within 3 years if you pick the right trade and most trades are desperate for people right now. Best thing of all is unlike college when you are learning your trade you will be getting paid at the same time and even as a lowly apprentice you will make at least double what you are making in retail.

Never to late to improve your life I wish you the best of luck in whatever you ultimately decide to do.

I'm not sure what's in your area but around here factories are always hiring. They sometimes have transportation options.

I've worked in a few and depending on the position it's not always terrible. The pay's usually better than retail. I was making $23+ an hour at the last one and this is a low cost of living area.

i have been in that scenario... hospital appointments take up a good deal of the day and they should change the food stamp requirements but republican senators hate freebies for the poor.
