People love Bucky and Yelena. And comic fans have been itching to see Sentry introduced.
Yeah its them and red guardian, but no one cares about the others. Like someone else said, it just feels like a sequel to BW/that falcon show but like it should be a series rather than a movie

No one cared about the Guardians of the Galaxy until the Guardians of the Galaxy. Let's give this rag-tag team of misfits a chance before we crap on them.

Nobody outside of comic readers cared about the Guardians of the Galaxy and now theyre fan favorites. The whole these characters are too obscure argument kinda falls flat

Kinda hope this bombs. Just seems very poor. Half the characters no one cares about. No Zemo to lead them. Idk man

Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... I get this. Zemo and his league of disguised villains was and is a great comic book, and Zemo in a Citizen V type role is hype (and I'm like 90% sure he's gonna be behind the scenes somewhere with how prominent Bucky is), the MCU just.... it's pretty much these characters for established anti-hero/villain/mercenary-allegiant characters. Everyone else is either too cosmic/godly or, frankly, dead. They're not going to do another Eternals of brand new characters who were there the whole time we swear, and Guardians worked because it was in a completely new space.

I am liking it, though, more than Brave New World's trailer.

This is my main problem with it. It just feels like they are making Thunderbolts with who is left. Im hoping Zemo will actually be in it but yeah

The MCU doesnt lock away villains instead of killing them for no reason. Theres always a We tried to keep this so secret until theaters. aspect with them these days.

Eh, I would consider those mini-team ups. They had a few of those before Endgame. Captain America Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnarok. You had two or three people that weren't in the title character's series. An actual team up, imo, is when you have at least 4-5 characters unrelated to each other teaming up. Just as long as it feels like an Avengers movie I'm happy. Civil War felt like a big team up movie too as they had almost everyone in that.

I think you're conflating team-up with team. Team-up is a term that generally refers to two, maybe three or four, characters teaming up. Especially in Marvel which has regularly had a comic book series called Marvel Team-Up which does exactly that.

Having Zemo established in the MCU but seemingly not part of a Thunderbolts team is a super confusing decision for me.

Also where is my "Justice, like lightning"?

Bucky's great, Yelena elevates everything she's in, Red Guardian is hilarious and David Harbour sells the shit out of the role, Walker's interesting and I want to see where his headspace is at now, and I love the MCU's interpretation of Ghost.

Taskmaster is the weak link here but now she's not brainwashed so we have no idea what her personality is like so we'll see.

Mostly though I'm in for these characters interacting. I don't really care that much about the plot or Sentry - let me see Red Guardian annoying the shit out of Bucky with questions about Cap and other dumb shit like that. Just a bunch of assholes giving each other shit.

I hope this movie solves the debate of whether Alexei is

A - Fully aware that he's making up his rivalry with Steve and just likes telling the stories
B - Deluded and honestly believes he had a rivalry with Steve
C - Had a rivalry with a different and less publicized Captain America, and is confused and thinks he was Steve
D - Somehow actually had a rivalry with Steve and all his stories are true (maybe he continued doing Captain America things after returning to 1940 and was way more secretive about it)

But what's the difference? In the comics they were both super villain teams masquerading as heroes (at the start at least). This team is more morally grey characters than villains, and none of them seem to be making an effort to hide their identities.

Apparently it's the last movie of phase 5 so you'd think they'll need to set up something big but this all feels a little too grounded to do that. I hope it's a good movie otherwise people will mostly just care about whatever credits scenes set up phase 6.

Taskmaster is easily the most bastardized character on this team. I hope they expound on her in this film. Thats being very optimistic, unfortunately.

I know people have been complaining bout no Zemo or big hitters since it was first announced but that's clearly not what they were going for. Looks like a great continuation of the ground level Cap and Black Widow spy stuff. All the characters except Taskmaster are well liked and I think they'll give her a lot more to work with in this one. It's not super easy to be an interesting character when you're a mind controlled zombie. Her new outfit looks great too.

Hawkeye once killed the Hulk with an anti-Hulk arrow. Power levels are bullshit. Don't get too caught up in it.

To be fair, Sentry being vastly overpowered compared to his teammates and standing around doing nothing for 95% of the time is pretty accurate to his comics portrayal.

Would have preferred they did a version of the team closer to the original concept from the comic. Actual villains masquerading as heroes with the intent to gain top secret intelligence, etc.

Like someone else said, this feels like they rounded up a bunch of random leftover characters and threw them on a team together and just called them The Thunderbolts.

What if it is actual villains who kind of wish they were better people being tricked into thinking they are being heroic while actually doing villainous things?

I think this version is more along the lines of Ross' version of the Thunderbolts; basically a black ops team comprised of trained killers, mercenaries and spies, led by Valentina.

But then Valentina finds a way to control Sentry/The Void, adds him to the roster, and then they get rebranded into an official, government-sponsored Avengers team....until Valentina gets ousted from power (somehow) and Sam forms his own New Avengers team just in time for Doomsday/Secret Wars.

Another possibility is that the team splits off by the end; we get both a Dark Avengers team with half the characters joining Valentina, and the other half joining with Bucky to form something similar to Luke Cage's version of the Thunderbolts. I could also be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure Bucky actually led his own Thunderbolts team too.
