It's funny that my opinion has almost entirely flipped on it since I was a kid. As a kid: This is weird and I don't like it. But I can revive Tidus at the end, so it's worth it! Now: This is a fantastic RPG with a top tier battle/class system, tons of optional content even if some of the minigames aren't the best, and some fun exploration of Spira after FFX. It has some shockingly interesting critiques of capitalism which I wouldn't expect in a game like that. Getting to see Spira that's not caught in the spiral of death is really interesting and it feels like the devs made the most of that angle on the story in the ludonarrative with a much more dynamic and lively battle system and an approach to the game that emphasizes the new situation that it's in. However, the option to revive Tidus shouldn't exist and completely goes against all of the themes of the game. Literally all of it is about Yuna moving on and realizing that life exists after tragedy. It's even emphasized by having the literal main villain of the game be a Tidus lookalike who was paired with a Yuna lookalike, and having his main motivation be that he couldn't accept her death and let his regrets boil over until he became totally evil. It's not even subtle that the major point of the game is that Yuna needs to move on and accept what happened, so the option to say "Actually, fuck it, revive Tidus after all" is very strange to me and seems to contradict everything else. I didn't actually meet the requirements to get him back, because I was doing a really casual run of the game, but I would have said no even if I did. Still, excellent game. I had a blast revisiting it, it knows how to have fun with itself. --- https://www.youtube.com/user/dotsdfe I make Fire Emblem videos. Sometimes. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I loved it, even as a kid. The pop music was out of place but I didn't care because it was catchy as hell. I had Real Emotion and 1000 words on my music playlists lol. They really did that ending dirty by only having it in game engine. --- Time is a funny thing, you know? I guess in the big picture of my life, you were only a blip. I started the franchise at X, so it was the 2nd FF game I played and despite being much different than the game that it spun-off from, I thought X-2 was a blast to play at the time. --- http://i.imgur.com/0APl48O.gifv ... Copied to Clipboard!

I guess the revival kinda echoes Yuna's opposition to sacrifice in X-2. In X, she's willing to give her life to save Spira, but when someone volunteers to do the same at the end of 2, she says that plan sucks. She'd rather do the extra work to save the world without killing her friends, and in the end she's rewarded by not having to give up Tidus. It's not a good message about dealing with loss or moving on, but it works with her ideological transformation in 2. RIP to the rest of Dream Zanarkand and all of Sin's victims though lol. --- Hambo's alt. ... Copied to Clipboard!
