and is my favorite game and almost DLC of all-time (Bloodborne's Old Hunters still takes that title, and is subsequently my 2nd favorite game of all-time)

Dont be a dick

So, I'm in a weird place with this one.

On one hand, this game is decidedly not for me. It contains aspects of two popular games/genres that I absolutely do not care for, and find incredibly frustrating to play. So part of me wants to politely accept that I shouldn't pee in everyone else's cereal and bow out.

On the other, if the playerbase wouldn't have been so intentionally avoidant over the game genre, swearing up and down that this game is so goddamn amazing, but oh, we can't tell you what it is because that would be spoilers, I would have known this wasn't for me out of the gate, I wouldn't have bought it, I wouldn't have spent hours trying to make it work, and I wouldn't have gotten angry and frustrated over the experience.

Even now, the insistence with which everyone else demands that this game is so awesome makes me feel like I'm missing out and should go back and try it again...which will probably end no better than the first time, because I get along with Myst-likes about as well as two angry cats in a sack. To say nothing of being on a timer where you have to be at the right place at the right time for many of the interactions in the game.

So no, this game is not for me, but due to the time I was "subjected" to it, I'm not going to give it a pass.

5/10, with a score of 4 and +1 for the ending theme.

Final Fantasy Tactics is an 8/10. I have many fond memories of it, but it's got some pretty serious jank, too.

7 but like a high 7. 7 on its tippy toes so it can almost see 8.

RE4 is perfect in the way I've played its campaign a thousand times and never been bored - bought it like 4 or 5 times, counting the remake. But Outer Wilds was the exact opposite: a single experience that was so perfect it became my favourite game despite the fact that I will never (and can never, really) go back to it.

I tried to get into it a few times but never quite got to grips with it. Just didn't pull me in, sorry.

I didn't really want to rank games in these topics because I felt like games would either be "I love this" or "this game isn't for me so I don't really want to rank it." Like I actually hate Bloodborne and every other Soulslike, they're like a 3/10 for me at best, but it felt weird to rank them because I just don't like them. It's kind of a conundrum. My opinion's valid but it just felt weird anyway.

Had a decent time following some threads around, but definitely hit a point where I didn't necessarily have a compelling or clear place to go that could keep me interested in continuing the game.

Especially things that felt like they possibly needed specific timing in cycle which could be a real drag.

I really don't know if any other game will ever top it

I don't see it as yucking on anyone's yum, but giving breath to all experiences. Like I personally believe BotW set the Zelda franchise back by at least a decade, but I know that's not the common opinion. I also don't see the need for me to swallow that opinion because it's an outlier.

That being said: 5

Yes an experience unlike any other, but more in what had to be the worst gameplay in a modern game that just never clicked

I find this a very odd framing. Like, its fine if you dont like the direction Zelda went in, but Breath of the Wild was a technically revolutionary game that caused the franchise to absolutely explode in popularity. How is that setting it back rather than advancing in a way that wasnt to your taste? Which is fine of course.

Because - to me - my taste is the only thing that matters!

I don't care if it exploded in popularity or how technical it was if my personal experience is ass flavored ass. I'm praying Echoes scratches the Zelda itch I've been missing.

And again, I'm not bashing anyone who enjoys it. I'm happy so many people love it and have enjoyed it. I do not. At all. And I'll make it know when requested (like these topics).

Final Fantasy Tactics: 8

Enjoyed it, but it has some bizarre design choices and difficulty spikes. The story also becomes much less interesting after about two thirds of the way through (the first couple of chapters are excellent though). Probably if I'd played it when I was younger and had more time to master the classes inside out I'd rate it higher.

Yet to play Outer Wilds.
