On Tuesday evening, Braun sent out a statement saying he had misunderstood a line of questioning that ended up being about interracial marriage and condemned racism in any form saying there was no question the Constitution prohibits discrimination of any kind based on race.

Five hours earlier, however, during the press call, Braun had been explaining how he felt Roe v. Wade, the ruling that legalized abortions, should never have been a federal decision and been left to states to decide.
A reporter then asked Braun if he applied the same reasoning to decisions like Loving v. Virginia, which struck down state laws that made interracial marriages illegal.

Braun responded: When it comes to issues, you cant have it both ways. When you want that diversity to shine within our federal system, there are going to be rules and proceedings, theyre going to be out of sync with maybe what other states would do. Its the beauty of the system, and thats where the differences among points of view in our 50 states ought to express themselves.

The reporter asked again, reiterating the question and asking if Braun would be okay with Supreme Court leaving interracial marriage to the states.

Braun doubled down, saying Yes, I think that is something that if youre not wanting the Supreme Court to weigh in on issues like that, youre not going to be able to have your cake and eat it too, its hypocritical.
Were better off having states manifest their points of view, rather than homogenizing it across the country as Roe v. Wade did, he added.

He was asked several times, and he said if you want states to decide on abortion, then you'd be a hypocrite if you didn't want states to decide on interracial marriage.

Hours later, after he began getting blowback, he tried to claim that he misunderstood the question and was confused.

Before I even opened the topic and just going from the headline Loving vs Virginia popped into my head. I have watched a full documentary on that before and there is also a pretty damn good movie about it called "Loving" that came out within the last decade. It is a decently accurate portrayal as far as movies go.

The other day this insufferable "independent, leaning-right" female caller from Missouri called into one of my progressive shows and started asking why it was so bad for abortion to be left up to the states. The host started bringing up "would you be fine with slavery being decided by the states?" and of course she kept going "what a ridiculous thing to say".

Yet that's totally what Republicans want (which I'm pretty sure that woman was, even if she's in denial about it, listening to her speak wasn't much different than listening to a Faux News viewer in most of what she said).

I think he (the host) even brought up interracial marriage being left up to the states as well. Really sucks how so many people still think "it could never happen/they don't want to do that" and never believe it'll happen until it's already too late and has happened.

He lives in Maryland, he'd be fine and has a history of fucking over others even in things he benefitted from (he benefitted from affirmative action programs and then made sure he was the one to kill it for others). Which I know you already know, just reinforcing your post.
