Thinking of picking one of them up but idk which one to go with

Only played the first one

1 & 2

I liked all of them.

1 if you want a classic and full-length JRPG.
2 if you want a more unique take on a story.
3 if you just want something a bit more rounded out with an aviation theme.

I didn't hate any but at the core, I really liked 1 and 2 the most. 1 more because it was more of the JRPG I grew to love.

Edit: I just remembered there was a 4th one called Xtreme or something. Never played that one.

2 is better but 1 is still really good

Are you wanting to get the original games?

Because if not you can get both 1 and 2 in an HD collection.

This was a series I almost bought games for I dont know how many times on the ps1, standing in funcland looking at the jewel cases something always stopped me though, was this the series where you couldnt backtrack or go back and explore old areas, like a dozen points of no return kind of thing?

Been a long time but now that you say it, I don't recall ever (being able to) go back to any old places in any of the games unless it was story-forced.

2 and xtreme were my favs.

3 was good for the start but goes downhill sadly.

2 for the plot and gameplay.
xtreme had plenty of dungeon crawling and stuff to fight.

G1 & G2 are both fine, but I'd give the edge to G2.

I never played 1. 2 is a good JRPG. 3 is trash.

1 and 2 are both great! 3 starts good but ends up the weakest

Three fills like it ends at the halfway point.

Extreme while a weak story is the battle system at its best.

1 & 2.
Extreme feels just like grandia 2.5 with randomly generated dungeon , but without charming characters and plot.
3 started good but when you hit disc 2 it suddenly goes downhill. Felt like a rushjob.

Only played the first one. Thought the battle system's pause was a little too tedious sometimes but the characters and music were both really good.

Lol, reading these comments, it reminds me now that I never did really 'beat' 3. I forget how far I made it but I got decently into it and loved what I got at that point. I guess playing it to the end wasn't something I needed to do.

Sorry I sound grumpy haha but I do have some opinions that can be swayed. Happy Console Gamer led me to believe a decade plus ago that Grandia 1 was amazing. Heh.

2 is better, it's mercifully shorter than the slog that is 1, plus the characters and story are a little more engaging.

But still it's not close, Grandia 1 is no where near Lunar 1. Lunar 1 to me was a good example of a nostalgically 90s rpg in the best way, while Grandia, despite an interestingly unique battle system, was otherwise an example of a not so good 90s rpg.

But I enjoyed Grandia 2, so I'd say it's worth playing

Never played Grandia 1, two was good, I know I beat 3 and thought I enjoyed it I don't remember much about it but I'm not sure why everyone hates 3?

I can be hard on Lunar 1 just because I think the 2nd is so much better. Lunar 1 is still worth a play 100 percent. But Grandia 1 had no hook at all. It was just clueless people on an adventure and it didn't seem to get better.

I still have Grandia 2 on Steam. I should try it again at least the start seems interesting.

They have that reputation but going back to play them, they had frustrating and annoying dungeons that I had forgotten about.
