We had one sub, Mr. Dobbs, that you could get to go off on any tangent. We all knew it and would get him to ramble the whole class, instead of teaching the material. It was great.

The substitute said he thought students in the English classes he was teaching would want to hear about his life as a police officer. The district does not believe the individual is a licensed police officer in the state.

During classes the substitute also:

• Twisted a students arm behind the students back and showed pressure points on the chin
• Fake punched a student with his fist really close to the students face
• Mimicked holding up a gun and pointing it at students
• Repeatedly made racially-harmful comments and told sexist jokes
• Spoke in disturbing detail about dead bodies he had seen and shared explicit details about two sexual assault cases he investigated
• Stated cops would be the best criminals because they know how to get away with stuff, adding that he once received an A grade on a paper about how to get away with murder
• Stated police brutality isnt real

Ok, this might actually be worse than the reenacting slavery thing.

I wonder why Teachers on Call, the contracted vendor that sent this substitute, thought he was qualified for English classes, or any class really.

tbh in my experience the lesson plaln for subs was just "write the homework on the board and then let the kids do their thing"

so plenty of time to get into random bullshit, i remember one of the subs bringing a piano into class just bc he was bored

If this was meant to be used as a real life example of how cops abuse(d) their power, that might have been appropriate in a class about that or if there were other trained 'actors' to assist.

Doing that on students is way beyond the pale and sounds like the substitute needed to talk to a therapist instead of teaching kids

I took driver's ed from a cop.

He gleefully told us about how they were executing a warrant in a trailer park, tried to tear gas the one in question.

The canister punched through three other trailers and ended up smokebombing some elderly couple in the middle of the night that had nothing to with it.

Dude thought it was hilarious.

Yep, or just have a video ready for the class to watch/fall asleep to. It was very rare for subs at my school to have knowledge about the subject matter and therefore be in any way fit to teach it.
