combined with Sonic 3, this shit is one of the best games ever made. Sonic 1 made the base, Sonic 2 enhanced it, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles nearly perfected it. A lot of series staples came from this game

- 13+1 Zones, all distinct from each other
- Top tier of Top tier soundtracks, Not a single bad song. Every level pretty much has its own song
- One of the best Water levels ever made still to this day
- One of the best Ice levels ever made still to this day
- Bonus levels that arent ridiculous. All 4 provide a decent reward
- 3 Playable characters, distinct enough from each other. Knuckles route is basically hard mode and utilizes his abilites well
- 2 player modes
- A minimalist story if you are into that, The emeralds have a story and gameplay purpose now
- One of the best final boss sequences in gaming.
- Michael Jackson's and Brad Buxer's involvement with the music
- The cartridge for S&K could be used on Sonic 1&2, giving you another playthough with Knuckles
- Knuckles existence in general

Seriously tho, fuck anybody who says these games were bad or never good back in the day. Sonic 2 and especially 3&K were badass back in the day and still today. 3&K does have its faults, like marble garden and carnival night, tho.

S3&K was basically my first real video game. Like, I'd played video games before, like at my cousin's, but S3&K was one of the games I got with my first very own console, and I played the heck out of it. I'd easily put it in my top 5 games of all time just for its part in introducing me to video games. Not that it isn't a ton of fun on its own, of course! In fact, I recently replayed it and had an absolute blast~

Personally, i think sonic 2 was the best gameplay, but i do appreciate that 3&K has a lot of improvements

Unpopular opinion: Sonic & Knuckles is better than S3/S3&K.

I think the S&K half is better than the S3 half

I also think Sonic 2 has a better string of beginning levels, with 6 banger levels, but once you hit Metropolis, it starts feeling like it was rushed

3&K has Marble Garden and Carnival Night with some unfortunate level design, but ive played it enough now to not mind it as much. Its the first 1/3 of the game and it rebounds with Ice Cap all the way to credits

3 & Knuckles is my favorite Sonic game, I'd say. It's so fun and has aged better than the Adventure games.
