I'm a little confused by this article saying they're going to stop doing straight-to-modern but then also saying they expressed desire to do more modern horizons occasionally

This is sort of true but also I know far more people who have gotten out of MtG and moved to other games in the past few years than I know people who have newly started playing

After being a whale in Hearthstone for like 4 years I'm done with collectable card games. Just too much money spent on a single game.

I won't touch Magic as I'm sure I'd get sucked in the same way lol.

There's your problem. Youre looking for a competitively-minded 1v1 game and you ended up play a card game instead.

MTG is great, I mostly play it with my wife and daughter.

You don't have to spend a ton of money at all if you're just playing it as a casual card game.

I can see this being kind of a good thing? Having sets that are legal in some formats but not others is needlessly confusing, and only makes you wanting to play multiple formats more complicated. It is much simpler to say "hey all these cards are legal in everything", and the differences in the format make for more unique games.

It'll also help all those players who only started playing MTG because of the LotR or the DnD or Doctor Who sets etc... (who are most of the people I know playing MTG) move into other formats outside of just commander.

I bought a box of the furry set and the art is cool but I don't really have desire to actually play the game

When this happens it triggers the effect of my Ronald McDonald which make Rick from the Walking Dead stronger. As this happens Chun Li prepars to attack you alongside of 11 from Stranger Things and Hatsune Miku.

Robocop does nothing. I tap the Terminator.

So its just the same as when Mk fans get mad that Kratos and Jason are dlc

If people want to play Fortnite cards with MTG rules. What's wrong with that? Let Wizards make their money.

If you don't want "Crossover" then just play vanilla MTG with other people who feel the same as you.

I don't understand the treehouse style gatekeeping of "NO! There is no change or evolution or new ideas allowed in this format! Everything must stay the same forever!"

Bitch you would never have even played MTG if that was the attitude from Day 1 because it never would have grown

This makes an already absolutely miserable Standard go from 9-12 sets to 13-18. Most games are already decided by turn 4. Aggro decks already have turn 2 wins. Even ignoring the absolute idiocy of trashing 25 years of your IP, this is just going to Standard even less playable than it has been for the last 5 years.

Magic can set up its Going-Out-Of-Business sale right next to Nintendo's.

The mtg community should have actually stopped buying the crossover sets if they didn't want this, but instead they bought them in record numbers.

To me, it's just typical C-suite shortsightedness. Take an extra dollar now, but lose a dollar a year. Eventually that's going to catch up to you.
